Reviews for Kwality Tandoori

I have not been here in years but remember it as being OK, but not up to some of the better Indian restaurants in South Kensington (Khan's of Kensington, Noor Jahan, Mothi Mahal, Little India, & Memories of India are ALL superior) and surrounding areas.

The thing that gets it 2 stars instead of 3 is the fact the actual TANDOORI grilled meats are average, at best.
I think if you have the word "Tandoori" in your title it should be at least slightly above average.

The one time I have eaten in and twice walked in for takewaway the service was polite & effiicent.

Beautiful restaurant, went in sat down and despite there being only one other table for 3 staff to attend to, it took them half an hour for them to come to our table and take our order, the waiter made the excuse that he was having a long conversation on the phone. My prawn madras arrived in good time, luke warm as though it had come straight out of the microwave (it also arrived in cheap microwavable bowls) the curry was like a cross between baby food and something that had been processed beyond description. it was watery, tasteless and not worth the energy it took to eat it. The rice was salty and dry. My peshwari naan was quite nice but all the food went cold very quickly despite the measly portions. Plates were being taken away from our table as we ate which i found very rude and made me feel as though i had to rush my meal. When we finally finished we waited half an hour for our bill whilst the waiters were shouting each other and busying themselves by rearranging tables. Our bill arrived with a 10% service charge added on which we refused to pay, the staff also attempted to charge us extra for items on our bill. When we expalined why we refused to pay the service charge, he shouted at us and told us the shouting was none of our business. We paid and walked out. Never will i grace that place with my presence again. Poor food and even poorer service.

Only a 5 minute stroll from work, the Kwality's eat-as-much-as-you-can buffet which is served lunchtime Monday to Friday is the place to come if you need a good feed. Usually Indian food at lunchtime is too heavy for me but Kwality's curries seem to be less stodgy - the problem is that i eat too much of it. The buffet consists of Onion bhajii's, salad, pilau rice, chicken korma, lamb curry, lentil curry and a vergetable curry. Not an extensive range but its not bad for the price. The restaurant is clean, modern but small so you might find you have to hover around for a bit before filling your plate. Food is fresh and they use Kwality (mind the pun) ingredients. However the curries could do with being spicier - I think they are addressing the mass market and perhaps the tourist that frequent the museum. More chilli please!
