Plain and simple that's the way I like it. Nothing fancy or out of place. The food like the decor was understated, tasteful and good. The ingredients fresh and springy with nothing yukky or past its sell by date - just good, clean, tasty fun. All round a mighty fine local with superior grub, good pricing and clean tasting cuisine. Yum! Yum!

The Au Lac is a great local restaurant - and it delivers! Try the delicious fresh rolls, a really nice prawn starter, the chili-fried squid, prawn and green leaf soup, we've never had a bad dish from here and we've been ordering regularly for 10 years. the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly too!

I had been meaning to try Au Lac for a while, it looks so welcoming from outside! No idea why it took so long for me to take the other half here! Glad i did, we both loved it. I have never eaten vietnamese food before, i had assumed the worst so i was so pleased when i was proven wrong. The food here is so delicious! You have a massive choice, all tastes are catered for and you certainly don't go home hungry! The service is also excellent, and the owner also pops out to say hello to both new and old faces by the looks of it. If you want a cheap night out, with fantastic food in a friendly environment, you have to go here!

Au Lac has two branches to it's name and has been a long standing favourite in Highbury and Finsbury Park since that branch opened more than 10 years ago.
The problem I have with many 'Vietnamese' Restaurants is that they are often Chinese cuisine dressed up - but here you get the real deal. The food is very authentic and of great quality. There are the same old faves for those that want them but also some great regional dishes, such as the pork belly stew that are worth a try. I have never had a bad meal at this place in all the years I have been eating here and the loyalty you show to the restaurant is repaid by the owners with lovely friendly services, a welcoming owner(who always makes an effort to come over and say hello), complimentary dishes and quite frankly some of the best Vietnamese food I have eaten.
I haven't tried the Hoxton branch yet but if it is anywhere as good as Highbury I'm sure it's fab. VERY VERY GOOD.
