Reviews for Marine Ices

The Marathon Bar a few doors down is a Camden Nightime place a gaff that's buzzin' in the early hours with folks on the prowl looking for parties or chemical action. Marine Ices is daytime Camden. Old fashioned Italian 60's style chrome and tile interiors. This was probably one of the first places you could get good coffee, way back when it was more than a novelty. When it still had some James Bond class. There may be better ice cream in supermarkets now. The selection here is still hard to beat - some go nuts for the Pistachio - I'm a chocolate chap myself. Coffe is good to. Its got a great seaside design inside. Good place for a quiet coffee and chat or a spot of indulgence Italian style.

in chocolate week what better place to have the stuff - cold, elegant, dark, profound & served in a rather fetching sundae glass - the espresso, & tiramasu ones are rather splendid too!

I first came here a couple of years ago, and always drop in when I'm around. Although I've never eaten any hot food, I can definitely say that it's one of the best places in London to go for dessert. With a wide range of flavours, the ice creams come in generous portions, and there's always a smile from the person serving you. It's very good value for what you get, and staff are always happy to help you choose exactly what you want. It may be a little cramped at times, but when you see the signatures of patrons such as Jude Law up on the wall, you know it's going to be worth it.

The ice-cream is great, but let's not forget about the restaurant. This is a local, family type place, cheep and cheerful but really good, basic Italian. Their linguine al scoglio is fantastic, and they do pretty good pizzas as well. I wouldn't bother with the starters, but for a great plate of pasta or pizza with some house red wine, it's a winner.
Plus, the dessert menu is gigantic and you can invent your own sundaes. Coconut ice-cream with ginger pieces was a recent one of mine.

While there is a restaurant inside, the best way to get ice cream from this little shop is to visit the hole in the wall, flirt with the cute French guys serving you, taste-test everything, and finally settle on a couple of flavours - which they will cram either in a cone or a little paper cup for you. Then take a walk up to Primrose Hill, sit in the sunshine and eat your ice cream, and then lie back and enjoy one of the few beautiful days a year the English summer has to offer.

The ice cream is absolutely fabulous and it's about 1.70 a scoop, 2.40 for 2, and so on and so forth. They also sell ice cream in bulk to take home, but eating it outside while meandering about on a lazy Sunday afternoon is probably the best way to go.

Now go, and pick me up some ice cream on your way back home.
