Reviews for The Drunken Monkey

Walked in, was quite busy. Staff ignored me for 10 minutes, one guy cleaning fridges, then stopped and served someone then went back to cleaning fridges, so I left.

It is just near where I live I wondered why we never go there, now I know!
Go to the Commercial Tavern instead, 10 times better and the owners are fab.

Clearly a restaurant that does not care about it's customers!
We arrived at 11:50 today 18th May 07 to have lunch.

As we entered we were met with disdain and told the kitchen
would be open at 12:00.

I asked politely whether we could sit and have a drink whilst we waited ten minutes and were told ''NO''. No apologies. All that whilst doors were open, tables decked out and all ready to go....

Typical rudeness of a restaurant (or management at that time) that get it's clientele just from location. Not from service.

No more Drunken Monkey for me.

Wow, that's really poor service on their party!!! What happened did you wait the 10 minutes or did you go to a more deserving place?

We left for lunch somewhere else. Just could not believe his answer.

Bar/eatery type place that (at weekends, at least) goes that extra mile of providing a pounding soundtrack that ensures you can't converse with anybody else short of screaming in their ear. Excellent idea. Welcome to Shoreditch, sucker.

The decor? Well, they've spent money on it, I guess. The drinks? The usual, overpriced (apparently the mojitos are okay). The food? Utterly bog standard Chinese, nothing more. They've filled the place full of Chinese lanterns, so you can tell it's extremely authentic, honest. The bar staff? More interested in posing or chatting amongst themselves than serving customers. The atmosphere? Deafening, dreary, irritating. Great venue for a night out, if you don't much like your friends or your sense of hearing.

Can't vouch for it on week nights, though. Might be lovely then.
