Indus The Indian Room

Reviews for Indus The Indian Room

Been to Indus last week as recommended by friends. Enjoyed the dishes and not spicy as a previous person said. It was just right....indian food is supposed to be spicy to a certain degree. Natraj is not exactly a comparison. Some people have no idea. All the dishes we had tasted different and the menu is a good selection. Service was good and the atmosphere was relaxing. We enjoyed our evening and surely go again.

The food at the Indus was almost the worst Indian meal we've ever had. All 3 dishes were so highly spiced that it was impossible to tell what individual vegetables were being tasted. Another example of a restaurant that appears to think it's in Hatch End so can charge high prices without giving value for money. Better tasting food can be bought at Natraj in Harrow for a 10th of the price, although you can't sit down there unfortunately.
Very disappointing indeed.

I visited indus the Indian room on Friday i.e 21st January--Not only the food was great but the whole experience was superb. The place looks so beautiful and romantic with great atmosphere. The service was very friendly and prompt,,,,prices were reasonable as compared to the other local restaurants..

Decor and Surroundings 5 stars, Food 7 stars, Staff 4 stars, Value For Money 4 stars, Atmosphere 5 star.
Overall we had a nice and pleasant evening.

The Last Word
Indus the Indian room is aesthetically pleasing and with a unique concept on Indian cooking to boot, this venue will no doubt gain great momentum as time goes by.

Would you like to suggest a good Indian restaurant? You are in an area which has lots of expensive restaurants and anybody on a budget would find most of them daunting and poor value. As you have given one star to half a dozen restaurants and three stars to another, it would be helpful to those seeking reasonably priced lunches and dinners in this area if you could recommend a couple of restaurants.

The review of 18th Nov '09 sounds deliberately exaggerated, regarding the fish and staff issue its almost like a former employee or someone who didnt get a job there, wrote it!

We have been to Indus the Indian Room atleast 4 or 5 times and I personally find the staff amicable and efficient. The food is value for money and is authentic indian and is rapidly developing a good reputation

We will be back!

"Its Indus the indian room, located in Hatchend,Pinner which is truely a place to be visited for having a perfect time with your families or even as couples" wre one of the comments passed to me by one of my friends and believe me the expreience which i had convinced me.
Last week, I went to Indus the indian room with my family. It was fairly busy for a weekday but was surprised to see that staff were happily carrying on their service and were pleased to see us. The food what we ate was entirely of recommendation from the manager Shellin Taneja and it was a true delight. The spice level of food was of our choice and we enjoyed it. The prompt staff and delicious food made our evening enjoyable and one to remember. Also, the ambience of the restaurant was very relaxed and warm which made us feel very comfortable.
Next day i thanked my friend for his suggestion and now onwards its me who is recommending to others to enjoy the service and food at Indus the indian room and without any doubts it will be my most visited restaurant int he near future.
Cheers and thks Indus the indian room and Shellin for an evening which i spent at your place and all the best for maintaining what you have.

I went to this restaurant when newly opened and although the inexperience of the staff showed, I found the food nice.
Today I wanted to share the experience with my family and decided to go back.
We were received with the drinks menu, ordered our drinks and never got the food menu. we had to ask for it. On the table there was nothing complementary as it mentions in the menu or as I got the first time I went there. I ordered a couple of fish dishes, exactly as last time and some popodoms to kill time.
the first dish was a kind of coated cod, extremelly dry inside proving that it was not fresh. The second dish was monk fish with squid in a sauce. The fish was covered in excess with onions and peppers and when eating the fish I realised it was not monk fish but cod again. Was the onions and the peppers supposed to disguise the fish ??I asked them what fish was on that dish and they said they did not know and would ask in the kitchen. How can a waiter not know what a dish is composed by? the manager came and I asked about the fish and he insisted it was monk fish and that he had plenty monk fish in the kitchen and will show it to us. He NEVER returned with the proof. It would have been so easy to say that there was not monk fish left and they could do the dish with a different fish ! but not, they have to lie. The texture and the flavour of the two fishes are so distinctively different! This is a very good example of bad business ethics. A newly opened restaurant and this is the way they build confidence with their customers??? We then asked for the bill. The manager went and talk to someone for 1/2 hour ignoring our request for the bill, probably concerned that we will ask him to show us the Monk fish!. 3 times we had to ask for the bill and the bill came with service charge included !!!! appalling! how dear they? I just wanted to pay and run away! I would never go back there again or recommend it to anyone. It would have been so easy to do things right! You can learn waiter skills but you can never learn ethics if you did not have them in the first place. I am shocked !

This restaurant is new to Hatch End. Inside and outside this restaurant is very well presented.

There are 2 menus; the a la carte menu and a set menu. The set menu only runs on some weekdays which is a shame as it does provide very good value. Our meal started with the waiter giving us the set menu and then after ordering we were told that the set menu did not run on a Friday. We pointed out that this was their mistake and they agreed and allowed us to continue with the set menu. This was also down to the inexperience of new staff. The service was good but at the same time you could tell that this is a new restaurant and I do believe that a few more months of running this restaurant and the staff will have developed a little more charisma.

The menu does offer a wide range of choice for both meat eaters and vegetarians though I did need to point out that these dishes should not be served on the same plate! The drinks prices were very reasonable with soft drinks at £1.50 and alcohol at normal bar prices rather than expensive restaurant prices.

The main disappointment for me was the quality of the food. The food did not live up to the venue. It was beautifully presented but lacked distinct taste. The paneer dish with onion and peppers was ordinary and the lamb kebabs were dry and chewy. On the other hand, I found the fish dishes to be sublime and the chicken tikka to be very nice.

I would go to this restaurant again but would wait a few more months for the staff to settle in and for the food to develop in quality.

I'd seen the sign on the door and the owners inside for days and I'd peeped in and they'd waved in friendly fashion and finally it's opened. The opening offer leaflet was on a table outside. www.indus.uk com says the leaflet. The webpage will be set up in about a fortnight after they've finalised their menu. I could not find the webpage. I tried co uk and I tried com.
I phoned to ask about the offer and a jolly Indian young lady answered and kept calling me darling. She told me the opening offer is reduced to £9.95 if you can finish before 7.30 pm. The set menu will be available evenings weekdays. They will be closed Mondays.
The set menu dishes include kebabs, tikkas, salmon finished in the tandoor, spinach kebabs with walnuts, lentils, birianis and ice cream. They also do a la carte.
The service charge added to your bill is 10%.

Special opening offer in November set menu £12.95 per person but before 7.30 it's £9.95. I think the cut price earlybird offer will be weekdays only but the set meal at the higher price will be available all day weekends too - I got confused.

You can have as many items as you like off the menu but the items come in bite size pieces, so if you order lots of items you get a bite or two of each per person, whilst if you ordered only one you'd get several per person. My favourites were Monkfish in mint (like moist cod in a green coating of mint yogurt sauce), and the black lentils. the one thing I would not order again was the teeny samosas which were cooked to a crisp. The novelty item for me was the teeny bhel puris, little round breads with fillings, a bit like the Indian version of cocktail canapes.
The interior is lovely, colourful and soothing, red cloth napkins folded to hold the elegant modern cutlery, delightful large drinking glasses with tiered bases to the bowls, like reverse pyramids, long white serving plates framing an oblong of green banana leaf.
Desserts were ice creams. They gave us vanilla, strawberry and amaretto - which looked like chocolate. We should not have allowed them to bring a selection of three flavours, as we would have chosen a more unusual selection, coconut, amaretto and kulfi. We asked for the kulfi. It wasn't cold enough and collapsed, starting upright like a coned carrot, immediately flopping like somebody in need of viagara, and ending up like a pat of mashed potato, dissolving into cream soup. They were full of apologies and keen to please and so happy and smiley that we forgave them for everything and wish them well with their new venture.
The owner told me he'd been in wedding catering and was having a haircut next door when he noticed the empty shop. Make sure you get them to bring up your orders so you finish on time or the person doing the bill will charge you the higher price. Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy this taste of what they called 'modern Indian cuisine. On the backs of the main and set menus are different parts of the story of their type of cuisine. Toilets are elegant. Mango lassi was not on the menu but I asked for it and they provided it. Coffee was not available, only masala tea. But you are steps away from Caffe which does great coffees if you are on the early sitting menu and want to prolong the evening.
