For sociable Thai canteen-style dining. Can be crowded on Friday and Saturday evenings - be prepared to queue.

Once inside, you sit at the shared benches. Service is good, without frills. Main courses are about £6 each, with rice an additional £2 or so. There is a small selection of wines and the usual beers and soft drinks to go with your meal.

The food is very good, pretty authentic Thai style. Especially good are the red curries (look out for the duck red curry special - great!) and the pad thai noodles.

Thoroughly recommended if you're in the Clapham Common area and need a quick and reasonably priced bite to eat. Good for lunch at weekends too, when it is less crowded as it can be noisy in the evening, if that is not your thing.

    Cheap and Cheerful!

This is a great place to come with friends if you want a swift catch up. Guaranteed that you'll be in and out within an hour and a half.

The food is lovely, it's not insanely special, but for what you pay, it's great. I personally love the Thai red chicken curry with steamed rice.

Staff are pleasant enough, but don't expect an open-armed welcome!

I went there last night with my boyfriend and a friend. Four starters, a main with rice each, a bottle of wine and a lemonade set us back a grand total of £45.

I always end up bringing my friends here for some reason, just because it's so cheap and laid back. Not to mention the amount of good pubs in the vicinity!

    Thai-licious, fast-tacular

The trend has subsided somewhat, but a few years back every pub wanted to serve Thai food. A great idea in theory, but in practice, this led to a slew of cheap but extremely crappy Thai kitchens in London.

The Pepper Tree keeps the cheap, but gets rid of the crappy.

Mains average 6 at this place, which would be a hidden gem if everybody didn't already know about it. You can rely on there being a queue, but the queue always moves quickly.

All the standard dishes on a Thai menu can be found. I like the Tord Mun (fish cakes) as a starter and any of the curries (except their bland Massaman) as a main. The Pad Thai is also among the best you'll find in London.

The queue is one downside, and if you're looking for a leisurely dinner, look elsewhere. You'll be in and out of this place in under an hour.

But for a quick, cheap, and very delicious bite before (or after) a night out in Clapham, it's hard to beat.
