Reviews for S & M Cafe
I love the concept of this place... The sausages juicy and mash creamy, just like it should be. S&M are also doing their bit for the ‘Great British Grub’ industry by supporting local and sustainable food sources. Specialising in the obivious, doesn't mean that's all they serve but the menu can be confusing and a much needed reworked version will lauch in a couple of weeks.
Décor is reminiscent of old English diners and there’s a pleasant, buzzing vibe in the evening. Only criticism on appearance, is that the upmarket cafe could do with a spruce, a lick of paint and a bit more thought put into what goes on the walls.
Considering that their speciality is sausages, I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed on my first visit to this place. I had the traditional pork sausages, which were finely ground and tightly packed, feeling as if they had just a little bit too much fat and gristle in them. What's more, the mash was not as good as the mash we make at home. It was lumpy, which is inexcusable!
The service is fine, and the food is perfectly decent, but as a specialist I expected more.
What naughty place is this? This was my first reaction upon hearing about S&M Cafe. Get your mind off the gutter! It's not what you think, S&M stands for Sausages & Mash. And what do they serve? Of course, traditional and modern twist sausages and mash.
"Eat Yourself Happy" is their motto. This moderately priced, diner-style cafe chain has a few locations around London (Angel, Spitalfield, Portobello), but the Spitalfield one is where I went. They offer various sausages from traditional sausage, to succulent lamb & mint, to the experimental chicken and asparagus and the Asian influence of Pork, Lime & Sweet Chilli. Vegetarian? No problem. There are a few options for you too! Spinach & Mature cheese or Mushroom & Tarragon? Oh boy! If that's not enough choices, S&M offers 4 different mashes (including no dairy version) and 3 gravies (house, organic honey mustard and veggie gravy). Wait, there's more! The sides selection from mushy peas to baked beans, all day breakfast, various pie options and puddings for dessert. S&M will for sure make you very happy indeed!
Mmmmm.. S&M anyone?
I love this place, their moto is come sad leave happy and its true. 2 things I want to change though bring back the cheesy mash, you did it so well and PLEASE can we have jam roly poly on the menu!
Love this place and I'm not even much of a fan normally (they sell sauages and mash so get your mind out of the gutter).
Lines snaking onto the footpath on sundays thanks to the market but definatly worth the wait.
I'm also just discovered they do brunch until 4pm on Sat and Sun so I will be back for some poached eggs soon.
