A must for jazz fans
Same menu, same prices but the atmosphere is so different to other Pizza Express restaurants.
At Pizza Express, Dean Street, you are located in the heart of Soho. The restaurant is divided into different sections. Upstairs there are about 3 different areas of tables so that you are not all on top of one another. However, in the evening, the downstairs "basement" is open, where they have live jazz acts playing.
When I want to go and see a live act, I ring and book my tickets for the show which automatically reserves me a table. I will then go early with friends, go down to the basement where my name will be on their list and am seated. We then have a meal and drink and usually the act is about to begin as we're finishing eating. You can however eat and drink throughout the show if you so wish, the waiters/waiteresses milling about who are more than happy to bring you more drinks.
The atmosphere in the "basement" is one of chilled, relaxation. When I visit London this is my one must-do thing. You don't just go for a meal to eat, you go to socialize and have a complete night out.
The toilets are always clean, they will take your coat for you and be obliging. In the upstairs window is a TV showing live footage of the event downstairs so you can have a sneaky peek.
All in all one of the best eating places I've been to.
