Meal was a dissappointment. Menu choice great, staff excellent but they managed to get our order wrong on each course even though it was not busy. Portions also on the modest side, calves liver was a small potion with twice as much back bacon. Asparagus was hi-lighted but the portions were small. Great sham

After walking from Smithfield in the biting cold to Tower Bridge and beyond, I ventured upon Butler's Wharf Chop House. Tempted by their Bar Menu - three courses for £12 menu (or two for £10!) I was offered a table in the Bar area overlooking the Thames and Tower Bridge. As far as settings go, even the sub zero wind chill that I had just experienced outside didn't stop the view being fantastic. After leaving our coats in the cloakroom, we ordered.

The £12 menu had a selection of four starters, my pals had a delicious Roast Tomato Soup, I settled for the Pork with Green Vegetables and mustard. It was perfect as a starter, although definitely a summer dish I felt as it is served cold. On any other day I wouldn't have minded, but Sunday 1st February 2009 must go down in history as the coldest day ever. (I exaggerate, but you get the idea!)

My main course was corn fed chicken, mushroom stuffing, roasted silverskin onions, and parsley mash. It was, in a word: heavenly. Is there anything nicer than a decent serving of mash? My friends had liver and sage mash. I don't like liver so can't comment on it.

Naturally I had a desert, which was Manchester Tart. A bit too sweet, as this version had a topping of meringue which was too much.

Service was fast, and friendly, but I've marked down the Ambience because everytime the door opened there was a blast of ice cold air which seemed to stay too long!

But at these prices, it was something I could overlook.

We have just discovered this spot on our doorstep almost and done a dinner and a Sunday lunch, both off the bar menu.
The location is superb, overlooking Tower Bridge and the Thames as it does.
Sunday lunch was a big thick slice of beef that filled the plate, with a matching Yorkshire and good gravy. Be aware that the only vedge included is one roast potato so most people will need extras if only to balance up the meat.
My son has had the fish, chips and mushy peas, served with a jar of home made tartare sauce, which he really enjoyed. We can also recommend the steak sandwiches and the steak and kidney puddings.
Drinks and prices are very reasonable and, having done many of the D&D chain that this belongs to, its at the top of our list.

On a balmy night in London overlooking Tower Bridge there can't be many better places to spend a couple of culinary hours. It's about as good as it gets and the newly gentrified Shad Thames area makes a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of the well worn paths to the doors of West End eateries.

It trumpets itself as serving "British Classics" and sadly delivered "Carry On" food rather than Shakespeare...

On the night I eat recently, the food was not as good as I had a right to expect given that we paid around £70 per head in our group. Rather than cooking that demonstrated talent and verve, we got competence which was more than a little disappointing. Small things such a dry cardboard bread was not a good omen for what followed and whilst there was nothing heineously wrong with our food it just didn't excite. I had 4 small lamb cutlets, all bizarrely differently cooked - varying from rare to medium, the accompanying veg was overcooked, the steaks came as served and not one of our party was consulted as to how they wanted them - 2 were returned as one was blue and the other well done !!!

The desserts were all of Sara Lee standard and the cheese board came as advertised - Cheese with bread that had the consistency of Board...

Conran have taken this under their wing and much needs to be done to lift the food standard to befit the location. The much trailed surly service to be fair has disappeared and staff were bright & helpful, but Butlers Wharf's continued absence in any noteworthy food guides is some way off being remedied judging by this experience.

i'm guessing they didn't even leave out to 'breathe' and cultivate that essential cheesey aroma.
