This establishment is a disgrace the food is absoluteley awful .

Lemonia along with 99% of Greek and Cypriot restaurants in London are the same.

Why can the Turks and Lebanese reproduce decent quality in London whilst the Greeks/Cypriots shame their nations cuisine !

Does not deserve the star but its the minimum one can give to publish the review.

    Beware of Greeks bearing...food

I'm going to make no friends here, I'm sure. But isn't Greek food a bit naff? I mean, come on. It's just stodge. OOoo,a few olives on the side to make it look all sophisticated and stuff. But really, it's just endless riffs on a shepherd's pie.

Lemonia's a decent restaurant with lovely staff, who work hard to make sure everyone's happy. But they miss the trick most Greek restaurants I've been to usually pull: bring out an infinite number of plates to disguise the fact that none of them are much better than a clump of steamy earth. Here, I had two very small courses: filo-parcelled yellow stodge followed by aubergine stuffed with brown stodge. Mrs Matt had courgette neatly chopped, sauteed, then pulped into a brown stodge, followed by moussaka (orange stodge).

So, for me, traditional Greek, if that's what we got, is like traditional English. Hearty, warming, but ultimately forgettable.

Prove me wrong Greeks. Prove me wrong. Show me a Greek place worth visiting. Change my opinion.

Mrs Matt wishes to state that she *really* enjoyed her food and loved the service and that Mr Matt is a curmudgeonly grumpion who wouldn't know good food if it forced its way down his gullet, causing him to gag and collapse so the last thing he saw before the good food choked him was a biplane leaving a contrail of sky writing that said 'that was good food that was'.

Lemonia is an institute. In a recent interview in timeout the owner said that business in better than ever and people from all over London are coming.
I was there several times I think the food is good but the place is a bit overestimated. The bread was dry and the humus was just ok. It is still one of the best option in this street but I prefer the Russian restaurant TROJKA just around the corner.

I agree with 'qwghlm', it is probably one of the better Greek restaurants in London, but I can't help feel that lately, its popularity is starting to go to its head and as a result it has lost some of its original charm. It's so busy that I get the feeling they don't try so hard anymore. It has lost some of its attention to detail and laid back attitude that made it such a fun and satisfying place to eat. Lemonia has always been intense - the lights are bright, it's noisy and everyone's running around and yelling - that is part of the charm. But without the food to match it's just... well, intense. And I don't know what it is about their espresso, but one shot of it and you are up for the night (and I'm no stranger to caffeine). I go back for the experience, I still like it, but sadly, the food isn't really doing it for me anymore.

A friend and I once wandered in quite tired and hungry at about 11.30pm. Sensing the place was shutting for the night, we timidly asked "Are you still open?" and the proprietor heartily replied "If you are here, then we are open" and beckoned us in.

Which sums up what a great place this is, and the great attitude behind it. It also serves the best kleftiko bar none I have ever had in my life. One of London's best Greek restaurants.
