Souk Bazaar: Great atmosphere and lovely food. 15th February 2009

We always knew it was going to be a tight squeeze, leaving work at 16:30 in north Bedfordshire, getting ready, walking to the station, getting on the train, walking through St Pancras, getting on the Tube then walking to Souk Bazaar for 19:00, eating then going to the theatre for 20:00 , but - due to a combination of traffic jams and late trains (blame National Rail) - we didn't arrive at the restaurant until 19:20.

Stepping inside is like stepping right into the middle of Marrakech or Fes, with beautiful draping curtains, candles, shisha pipes and low seating. We opted for the delicious 3-course set meal for £19.99 a head, which consisted of a plate of starters (pitta bread, humous, vine leaves, calamari and a potato-in-sauce dish), big plate of mixed dishes from the tagine (lamb, chicken, spinach, chick peas, sausages and vegetables served with cous-cous - a vegetarian and fish option is available) and dessert of baklava.

We wish we could have spent more time relaxing in the beatiful cavern-like space drinking cocktails, but because of time constraints we had to rush the meal. Because we had told the staff on entering we needed to leave by 19:50, the service was particularly attentive, and they even put our dessert in a takeaway box for us to eat in the theatre!

The bill - for 2 set dinners of 3 courses, 2 Tiger beers and a bottle of mineral water, plus the included service charge - came to £56.

All in all, a lovely restaurant with great food. Will be returning with parents soon.

Can only add to previous reviewers' opinions-a lovely charming restaurant, excellent food, vegetarians very well catered for. You do feel transported away from the bustle of central London into an exotic world! I visited as part of a hen party and have to say it was a little squashed, but somehow that just adds to the charm. Highly recommended, I definitely intend to go back as soon as I can.

This is possibly the most beautiful restaurant I have ever been to. We went for my 19th as I really love moroccan food but haven't been to a restaurant! Well it was like a dream walking in, all of a sudden it was like you weren't in the centre of London at all but in the centre of morocco. The atmosphere is lovely and intimate with draping fabrices, low seating and moroccan music playing softly in the background. Our food was just amazing and we ordered a bottle of their moroccan wine which was brilliant, especially for the price! I really want to come back and try it again, perhaps with a larger group. It's difficult to explain in words the charm of this restaurant but I would strongly recommend a visit! The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful, making the experience an even better one.

Exotic location with typical food from Northern Africa. I liked eating in a cave-like alcove, seating on cushions. Not very practical but friendly. The food is good, as long as you like couscous and tajine, and if you do, the portions are enormous. The lower rooms are a bit dark, but that could be interesting for a romantic evening. A bit noisy when the traditional bands and the belly dancers get active.

Very nice place (for those who are not claustrophobic the underground area is fantastic) for some romantic dinner.
The food is really good and the wines are good.

Not very cheap, but a place to be, at least once!
