Walking down Upper Street last Friday evening, we couldn't get into our regular eaterie, Isaan. With Thai food still on our minds, we walked into a half empty Rabieng, a few doors further up - and what a disappointment.
The prawn crackers on the table did not bode well - it was like eating solidified oil, with an aftertaste to match.
We then had to wait ages to be served (and rather annoyingly the people next to us who arrived 10 minutes after we did got served before we did).
The waitress poured the beer into my glass in one glug - with the inevitable explosion of froth over the top of the glass. I don't think she'd ever poured beer before in her life.
And when the mains finally arrived, the Red Duck Curry (normally my favourite dish) was so watery, it was more like duck soup! No creaminess, no texture, no depth ..... no more!!
33 for 2 including service for one starter, two mains, one rice and 2 drinks. If only I had waited half an hour for a table at Isaan, where we would have got so much more for the same cost.
