Moomba Bar & Kitchen
One evening we ventured to Moomba Bar & Kitchen in Putney for dinner. I had never heard of it before, but came across some favourable reviews so decided to give it a whirl. Located just off the high street, Moomba looks good, with a few tables out the front for the smokers, and a modern interior with bar area and seating split over two small sections.
It was lacking a little in atmosphere when we arrived at 7.30pm on a Friday night, but things improved as the place filled up....though the service, which started out great, went down hill fast towards the end of our meal, and it was a battle to pay the bill.
Our meal started out very promising. To start, we shared the Seared foie gras with creamy herb risotto & Madeira sauce, which was very nicely presented and tasted great. The main meals weren't quite as successful, though they were by no means bad. I had the Grilled salmon steak with stuffed spinach pancake & creamy shrimp sauce, and Alex had the Braised belly of pork stuffed with wild mushrooms, with red cabbage & potato gratin. The dishes were fine, though not to the standard of the Seared foie gras, in both taste and presentation.
We felt like something sweet to round off the meal, and ordered the Treacle Tart, and the Honeycomb ice cream. They gave us the sugar hit we were after, but were not really worth the calories.
Moomba is a nice looking place, though feels a bit more like a bar than restaurant. Perhaps next time we will come with friends, have some cocktails, and snack on Moomba mezze plate.
