There are 3 Gallipoli restaurants on Upper Street - all fabulous, although the Bazaar doesn't serve Tarama. Really good value, especially the vege mezze which is big enough for 2 to share.

I absolutely agree with Mez. This is the sort of place that once you entered it you forget that it's bustling London on the outside. It's where you wanna be with some friends with lots to talk about, some good wine and food and forget about time, commitments, work and all the other annoying realities of life in London.

Neighbouring French and British restaurants wouldn't dare compete with (and let alone take over) this bastion of taste and authenticity. This beautiful Turkish restaurant is one of my favourites in London. It's a mini Istanbul bazaar in the heart of bustling Angel-Islington and serves delicious Turkish food at true friends' prices. Every time I enter this place I get lost in time in the rich and wonderfully evocative Ottoman décor. The Walls are adorned with cool blue Izmir tiles and packed full of old photographs of a powerful bygone era. The ceiling is lit by colourful and ornate lamps that never overpower the softness of the surrounding candles. The non-whirling dervishes (a.k.a very friendly Turkish staff) bring you aromatic olives with a smile as you make yourself comfortable with your surroundings and get acquainted with the mouth-watering menu.

Have a selection of hot appetisers and try some of the delicious meat-based dishes (if you're a veggie, not to worry, there's also plenty on offer). Treat yourself to a cool Turkish beer, let go of the worries of the day, and simply suck in the inebriating atmosphere.
