Reviews for O Fado

I was born in Mozambique (a former Portuguese colony), raised in the UK. I do not have present memories of Portuguese food as my African mother does. Neither my English father. But since I found out this Portuguese restaurant, she is delighted every time I take her there, always excited explaining the dishes details as if she has cooked them herself. I gather from it that the dishes are as traditional as they were when she has once learnt them. They sure are as flavourful as my infancy meals. This restaurant has somehow given us very special family moments. So I subscribed for the Portuguese cuisine gastronomy the restaurant is promoting. And hope I manage to impress my children the same way.

This Restaurant is fantastic!

I chose to spend New Year’s Eve at O Fado.
My wife is half Portuguese and I thought it would be a good surprise for her.
It was. From beginning to end, everything was well organised and the atmosphere was great.
Food was superb and in good portions and the service was amazing. We were entitled to 5 courses, aperitif, digestive, champagne and a bottle of wine per person.
The entertainment started with a guy playing romantic music followed by folkloric dances, then Fados and then live music to dance.
It was undoubtedly a very complete menu and entertainment program for a good price.
We both ended up having a wonderful evening. I will go back for the quiet ones now.

The entrance of the restaurant (in a basement) doesn’t say much about what you are about to find. Down there, is like you are no longer in London, the waiters have a strong unknown funny accent, the food is not just pretty and no flavour but rather strangely mixed on the plate and scrumptiously flavoured.
In the middle of dinner we had a charming lady singing a beautiful song in Portuguese.
The Portuguese tiles with Lisbon images and the dancing light candles make it really inopportune to come up the stairs and be in London again. Either you want to go back inside for another Portuguese custard tart, or you want to take the next plane to Portugal.
This restaurant is a lovely way of meeting another country, without wasting as much money.
