A hidden oasis for commuters
One of a UK-wide chain, this particular Zizzi is located in Paddington Basin - the new and rather attractive cityscape area behind Paddington Station, right next to the Grand Union Canal. It's an area that may be reached via that futuristic-looking walkway at the end of platforms 8 and 9. (Ever wondered where that walkway goes? Try it, and find out! I wish I had sooner.)
In comparison to comparable Italian chains like Ask and Pizza Express, the food at Zizzi is similarly priced but arguably superior in quality. Certainly I have eaten at this particular branch several times now and have never been disappointed. The risottos, in particular, are excellent: last week I had one with chicken, asparagus and parmesan, priced at £9.95 and simply delicious. The pizzas are large and fresh with a traditionally rustic, misshapen appeal. For your wine choice, I can recommend the Pinot Grigio, £14.50... uh, if I remember rightly.
I have always, too, found the service here to be the right balance of courteous, efficient, and friendly.
