Reviews for Zipangu
I've been coming to this little restaurant for about 10 years now and very little has changed in that time. The decor is a little shabby, its quite cramped in places but despite this its my favorite Japanese restaurant in London.
Food is cheap, service is quick and its always very tasty and authentic. My favorite is the Katsu-don, but the sushi, curries, gyoza and noodle-dishes are all great quality. I've never had to wait for a table either! I love this place!
I love Japanese food, and for cheap, simple, tasty, authentic Japanese food, Zipangu is worth a visit. The menu had a good variety of traditional Japanese dishes and some of my favourites - the gyoza were tasty, and the katsu curry was pretty yummy - neither will blow your mind, but will satisfy any cravings for home cooked style Japanese food that you might have (like I often do!)
The decor was basic and it is probably most suited to going with a few people for a quick meal - but definitely worth trying out. I would take friends back there if in the area.
A great place for simple Japanese food. Decent price for the noodles and rice dishes. Rather more authentic than most Japanese fusion places around, I won't label this place as fusion at all.
I always eat here if I was going to watch a show at the West End as it is friendly, convenient and delicious. Very Yummy!
update - in 2008 the restaurant changed to Akasiro, although I've not revisited a trusted friend has and reports the place is not as good. A shame if true :(
Zipangu is a japanese resturant that does simple traditional dishes well for a decent price. The setting is a basic japanese style and the quality of the food is consistently good. You have the option of going for a range of set menues or selecting your own from a comprehensive list of choices.
The chicken gyoza are a firm favorite of mine as a starter due to a light, crisp dough, the Katsu curry and rice is a nice staple dish and the Bento boxes have a strong selection of choices.
This is the best simple Japanese resturant I've been to in London and always a first choice when looking for food in the West End.
