Reviews for Green & Red Bar & Cantina

Been really looking forward to trying this place as we’re big fans of Mex food, as well as Tex-Mex. We called for lunch on the Bank Holiday Monday and, with their limited cut down lunch menu, we probably just got a sniff of its potential.
Décor is good – a nice Cantina style feel to the place. Bar is good – if you haven’t tried it before, the Bohemia beer is so good.
Guacamole seemed a touch bland. Burritos were well filled if lacking a little in the presentation stakes. Tasty though and we look forward to exploring the dinner menu.

The food was amazing, the drinks were fab and the service was exceptional, from the attentiveness of the manager to the caring and knowledgeable bar staff.

If you like anything to do with Mexico and South America then you will love it. There's a really genuine little taste of Latin America here, including the impressive selection of tequilla.

I was treated to a night out here for my birthday. We started downstairs at the basement bar. The cocktails were amazing, even if tequila isn't your thing. Well, actually that's not true, if you don't drink that or beer you're pretty much screwed but the variety of cocktails on offer means that you're bound to find one that is palatable. I recommend anything with watermelon.

Once seated on the ground floor for food, we ordered from the somewhat baffling menu. The lamb shank was tender, succulent and with a beautiful sauce but it didn't really have any accompaniments except mini tortillas. These were awful but then maybe i'm just too accustomed to western tortillas. There wasn't much else on offer to eat - a handful of meat dishes with salsa, refried beans and corn chips. But then if authentic mexican food is what you're after, i'm led to believe this is the place to go.

Personally, i didn't enjoy the food enough to want to come here again and it was quite expensive given that i left still feeling hungry. But if you like tequila, the downstairs bar (which does do tapas style food) is a great place to come for a few drinks.

i took a couple of mexican friends here from la and we had a great night. top beers, brilliant food and crazy hot chillis!

Sounds great. Where do you reckon the best Mexican restaurants are in London?

I wanted to like Green and Red, really I did. I love Mexican food, and I'd heard such promising things about this place, that I decided to go and check it out, with a view to having my birthday there. Margaritas at the bar were pretty good, and while we drank them we paid for some chips and salsa to keep us going. Twenty minutes later, still waiting, and we ask the waitress to seat us so we can order food. The food, which arrived after a lengthy delay, was good, but we had to ask 5 members of staff about the chips. The service really lets this place down - I felt like the whole meal I was trying to catch their attention, and it really soured my experience. For the prices they're charging, this place really needs to up its game, as the service is appalling and I won't be back. Also, there's no way that a meal for two, with drinks and service is £30-closer to £60.

We went here for food (there is a sit-down restaurant as well as the bar) and were quite pleased. The menu is impressive - no taco or burrito nonsense that dominates "Mexican" cuisine in London. The pork ribs & belly we had were slightly overcooked and dry but the green salsa, refried beans and the mini-tortilla pancakes that came with it were superb. Guacamole was good quality too, if a little too much lime.

I would rate this four-star but it loses one star for the very loud music in the restaurant section - it always makes eating less pleasurable and means you have to shout to make yourself heard. They should save the music just for the basement.

This tequila bar is right in the centre of 'happening' east london - and deservedly so. An interesting mix of informal restuarant upstairs and a basement bar with cool tunes. Good place for a birthday gathering.
