The Lavender - reliable, friendly and reasonably-priced
There's a bit of a dearth of good, reliable places to eat around Oval and while the Lavender isn't amazing, it's consistently good, reasonably priced and has the feel of a little local secret. There's an extensive menu of pizzas, pasta dishes and calzone (they do take-away as well), and a daily specials menu which can usually be relied upon for something filling and fresh. The service isn't always great, but it is friendly. On sunny days the little suntrap terrace at the back is a great place to sit and relax with a glass of wine and some good, unpretentious food.
