Reviews for Song Que

I didn't really find this place the Holy Land of London Vietnamese restaurants that some do. It was ok, but very ok. I found the cuts of beef in my beef pho really chewy, and the stock a bit bland. I ate my food, but have been to much better places, so won't be trying it again here.

vgood 10/10

was recommended by a friend and fell in love with it!
it's always packed on friday night/weekend.
should always book to avoid waiting.

Love the raw beef noodles soup ^^
rice paper roll
grilled beef wrapped round with leaf
grilled pork + vietnamese spring roll noodles salad

the best thing of it - IT's CHEAP!
but quite a walk from the tube station ..

cheap,good and fresh food.
I love this place.

I have a friend into her Vietnamese who isn't keen on this place. And because she knows her food and I trust her opinion, each time I visit, her words of disapproval echo in my ears and try to convince me that what I'm eating ain't so great. But it doesn't work. I can't help loving it. Perhaps her bar is set too high, and mine too low - but who cares, the heart wants what it wants.

I only wish I lived closer so I could go more often and order my favourite, bbq pork and spring roll bùn. So good and refreshing. My body thanks me every time.

OK....you don't agree with your friend. But please tell us why this E2 restaurant merits your 5*.

Your only comment about the food OR the restuarant is that your favourite is 'good and refreshing' for your thankful body - enough for the top rating !?

curlynewf - I wonder who that friend is? ;-)

RyleParker - firstly, have you been? secondly, the title is "love it" - if that's not an indicator of a 5* place, what is?

RyleParker at 22/11/08
N. Yes, I have (relevance ?).

My question (you will note) was why ?

I really want to try more of the non-Song Que Vietnamese cafes along Kingsland Road but this restaurant draws me back time and again. Choose the right dishes and you'll get a selection of some of the most cheap, fresh, delicious food to be found anywhere in London. Avoid the deep-fried starters and chinese-y stuff and order some rice paper rolls, a Vietnamese pancake, a bowl of decent Pho and top it off with a Cendol for dessert. You will not be disappointed and will probably come away with change of £30 for two.

I know the feeling with 'can't stop going back', it's the same with my friends. However if you do get the chance try the dingy Long Kee for their pho or Hanoi Cafe for possibly the cheapest quail and soft shell crab dishes found in London.

I have little else to add but that it the complete opposite of the word sombre.
Please visit and eat a small piece of sunny heart like love.
Really, words are not sufficient.
Be warned, the clumsy, ineloquent and alarming turquoise interior will stay with you and you will go back.
Luckily, it is also rather cheap.

There is something about Song Que which means if you haven't been for a wee while you start to encounter withdrawal symptons.

The beef pho is absolutely stunning. If you are feeling a bit down with the cold or recovering from flu this stuff will put you back on track.

Comfort eating of the highest order

An authenthic value-for-money Vietnamese joint - If you have ever had one of those days where you were pining for a big steaming bowl of vietnamese beef noodles that taste like what it should (most aussies will know what I mean) without having to fork out a ridiculous sum of pounds, this is it! The location ain't so fab, but hey what the hell, its one of those places where you have a quick satisfying lunch and shoot to continue the rest of your day :)

Cheap, but good and fresh-tasting food.

Service is hilariously gruff. Hold on to your drinks; they are liable to be removed if <30% full.

Definitely worth a visit. More suitable for groups than a romantic dinner for two!
