Canal 125 is the kind of pub I like - it has a bit of variety in what it offers to you as a venue...
You can eat outside beside the canal, or use the private rooms upstairs, including cushioned corners and a balcony overlooking, erm, Caledonian Road. Or you can stay inside downstairs and enjoy the long bar, wooden floors, and good food (I'm a sucker for big mirrors, and they've got a real crowd-pleaser in there).

The selection of beers is unchallenging but good, and almost any other drink is available, including good coffee.

The food is cheap but expensive, and generally yummy. Fish pie is excellent (ceamy, with plenty of chunky fish and seafood), and the beef burgers are popular. The slightly more refined corn fed chicken with chorizo, roasted peppers and artichokes is very good too.

Never crowded, but often busy. Even if it's deserted though, the vibe is still good. Staff are friendly and helpful, even if they do slightly unnerve me by taking big orders without writing anything down.

I've been to Canal 125 on a number of occasions as it's quite close to where I work. I haven't been overly impressed before, I thought it was overpriced and too fussy with an overuse of cream and cheese, however, I had a meal there today that totally changed my mind.

A large number of us were there and the dishes ordered were varied. I had a tuna nicoise salad with fresh tuna steak. The steak was well done, I prefer it medium rare, but to be fair I forgot to say it when I ordered! The eggs were cooked to perfection with the yolks slightly underdone and the dressing was very tasty indeed. The house wine was very palatable, much better than I was expecting and the espresso to follow was very good by London standards. The staff were very friendly and efficient.

The pub itself is quite good for a few drinks and they've a good range of wines by the glass. There's also a small but nice outdoor area overlooking the canal.

Maybe we hit a good day or maybe they've improved. I'll go again to see.
