Reviews for New Mayflower Chinese Restaurant

I went here after an evening at the theatre. I wanted to take my mother to a good 'off-soho' Chinese restaurant and I was not disappointed with the choice. I had read that the Mayflower 'suffered' from poor service and this was front-of-mind when I booked. When we arrived the table was prepared well and we started on a wonderful half Peking duck. This was simply superb. I feasted on squid and clams and my mother dined on a chicken and rice dish. The service was good and the food was frankly delicious. The service was in no way poor and the bill came to respectable £55 with a couple of beers and soft drinks. Would I go back? Yes. If I could make one suggestion or indeed criticism, and this has to be taken in the context of pretty much the majority of all Chinese restaurants, it would be that they don’t offer any decent pudding options. This is, however, culturally significant as Chinese diners neither expect or want to finish on a pudding.

Mayflower on Shaftesbury Avenue is brilliant and my choice for traditional Chinese food every visit to London, as the cooking is authentic and tasty.

A good restaurant is obviously rated highly primarily with good quality of food, but when the quality is good and the portions are generous, it makes it excellent value too!

I also rate the staff highly, as they are all very hard working, smart in satisfying customers needs and possess a good sense of humour.

A pretty standard Chinatown restaurant, this. Order off the English menu and you'll get pretty standard fare - exactly what you expect, nothing at all stunning. The specials menu is a bit more entertaining, and they do quite good seafood and crab. Just don't expect to get too excited about anything.

Other people have complained about the poor service but every time I've been there they've been fine.
