Favela Chic is a Brazilian bar and restaurant decorated in the style of a shanty town. The food is above average, but the main draw is the bar and music, which attracts a huge crowd later in the evening.

Reviews for Favela Chic

The best pastéis de nata in London

I love this place. Superb food, drinks fast and the music on the weekend is cool, crowd is mixed but always friendly.

Perfect party place. funny decor, funnier staff, decent food. Service still a little messy but it's not sposed to be the ivy

This place serves genuinely the worst food I have eaten in London.

Most of our parties dishes were unrecognisable from the menu description, our meat platter for 2 or more people was at best deep fried cr*p from the bottom of the freezer and would have perhaps fed two small children....assuming they weren't very hungry in the first place.

If anyone suggests eating here say No, No, No!

However, I don't want to post a totally negative review as there were some good points - service at the bar was quick, the cocktails were good and they played some cracking tunes!

Had I written this a week a go it would have been a very different review: eclectic décor which I love, mojitos which I also love and random music (one night we chanced upon a go-go night which fuelled a short burning desire to become a go-go dancer). But now it has made my black list.

A group of 20 of us arrived early on a Saturday night to help celebrate one of my besties 30th Birthdays, East-London style. There was a £10 entry fee from 9pm so we were all good little credit crunchers and arrived at 8.20pm, with a friend inside happily informing us the place was barely half-full. Long story short: a 45 minute wait in the cold and rain to ensure we'd all need to pay up, arrogant bouncers, rude management and disgruntled masses leaving the queue. We ended up happily spending the night at East Village a few doors down.

And you know what? Eclectic décor is everywhere is Shoreditch, the mojitos really aren’t that good and being a go-go dancer is unwise career choice. Favela will not be getting off my black list anytime soon.

I quite liked this quirky airy and trendy place. The recycled bits for the decor took a while to actually make an impact on me...but in the east end it's places like this everywhere with wallpaper hanging off the walls etc...or none for that matter...but the more I looked around as I waited for my meal, the more I was amused by it all. There is a MASSIVE disco ball at the bar...planks of wood nailed on the walls...it's all very eclectic and interesting - the best bit is the DJ as agreed by others...but my dish...newzealand musscles really hit the spot with me!!! just soooo scrummy and well presented. We went there for a birthday cellebrationa and we had a fantastic night!!

Would definitely go there again...a great experence.

French Brazilian, there's nowhere like this place in London. Interior has been creatively put together using re-cycled materials, tables are old school desks, matched up with chairs and disused benches, hanging mobiles with parrots, mirrors and dried flowers. They do their own take of delicious Brazilian cantina food.

I recommend Feijoda washed down with one of their perfect mojitos- www.favelachic.com

Music is eclectic, and mid week they usually have a live band playing.

Favela Chic was created in PAris many years ago. I 've been there many times, alone, with friends, with a girlfriend, looking for tenderness or for fun... Everytimes it was great. Good wine, good mojitos and big lates of food ... And the music is inventive, funky, DJ-global-nostalgic-romantic-kinky-magic-and-so-and-so...After those night I went in an hotel (different each night I spent in PAris) that I found on http://www.hoosta.com,a website with fabulous addresses of hotels, not all expensive, but all unforgettables;

I thought that the food was going to be a complete disaster but I was surprised. I oirdere fish and it was amazing. The only thing is that you'd better go very early to have dinner otherwise it will be impossible to have a decent conversation. The caipirinhas were not very good from my point of view and they difer from what a caipirinha should be. However the place is great and the atmosphere it's good!

Ok. You will not believe this.
Six friends eating awful overpriced food, but trying to enjoy it any way, after all when friends get together is always fun.
Until some waitress kick you out of the table because a bigger group has showed up to eat.
I got told off, because I was taking to long to pay the bill, while my friend was trying to chew the supposed sirloin steak
£40 per head and kick out of the table, fantastic!
Please do never compare that place with Brazil; the real favela can be friendlier.
