I was asked to eat at The Victoria twice in a week by coincidence. Lucky me.
The cooking on both occasions was just superb. It's not cheap but it's a lovely place and when I last went in the summer it was full of families having a great time. Don't read that as 'screaming kids' there is plenty of space outside.
But going twice in winter was interesting because you see much more. The menu was very good the first time, but last night there were three of four changes. I had baked Cod with a herby pine nut salsa, and I haven't eaten anything better in years. Someone in the kitchen REALLY knows how to cook.

It's hidden away but worth finding. I went with about a dozen other people on the two nights and there wasn't a negative between us all.

    Suburban Gastropub

One sunny spring Sunday we headed to The Victoria for lunch. This lovely gastropub is hidden away in the back streets of East Sheen and was filled with family groups enjoying good quality food in nice surroundings.

There is a small, comfy bar area at the front, and then dedicated dining areas to the side and rear. At the back of the pub there are some outside benches and a children's play area.

We sat in the conservatory section to the rear of the pub. There were plenty of people eating when we arrived, and a few more large groups came along later. The menu is reasonably priced with a good variety of meals. We ordered a beer while we tried to decide what to eat. Service was a bit amateurish and slow, but very friendly.

To start, we shared the Roast pumpkin & ricotta gnocchi which was tasty. For main course I had the Fish & Chips and hubby had the Wild boar & apple sausages. Both meals were really nice and we were happy with our choices.

Feeling a bit naughty we decided to share the Italian chocolate tart for dessert - it was well worth the extra calories!
