Great all-rounder
I don't know about Silka being an 'antidote' to anything, but I can tell you that they serve excellent food, which I suppose is the important thing, no?
Visiting last week with a group of about fifteen of us, we were handled ably and with admirable good humour by the staff, who were happy to give advice about unfamiliar dishes and seemed to know their stuff. The food was excellent, really fresh, with fresh, vibrant flavours and rich, deep sauces (although perhaps not as sauce-heavy as some UK Indian restaurants).
Wine list wasn't brilliant, but in fairness you don't typically come out for a curry expecting Lafite. On the whole, would recommend it, but wouldn't travel across London for it.

Silka Restaurant
Lovely Indian restaurant hiding underground near London Bridge. Elegant design and a smart clientèle (with inevitable elements of City boy) show what sort of market Silka's aiming at. The varied and interesting menu - combining traditional Indian cuisine with Western elements and ingredients - is enough to get your mouth watering before you've even seen a poppadom.
A lot of the cooking is based on Ayurvedic health principles, which is probably a big draw if you're into that sort of thing, but for most customers the appeal will simply be that the food's gorgeous. If you're after one of the Indian curryhouse usual suspects, there's several of them on offer, but frankly, there's more fun to be had exploring the rest of the menu. Baby squid and crab cake starters were deliciously spicy, while mains included lamb so succulent that it would have fallen off the bone, if it had still been attached to any bones worth falling off.
Friendly, if slightly quirky, service (one waiter could best be described as "giggly") and a bill that worked out at under £30 a head for two courses and wine make Silka a great choice, either for a planned meal or an impromptu drop-in.

Descend down a staircase from the entrance by Borough Market into an amazing subterranean space.
Silka restaurant is conceived as a calm and soothing change to Londons hectic life. Depth is created through the back-lit wall cladding made from different exotic timbers such as indian rosewood, ebony and makore. The frosted frames surrounding the show kitchen and bar emit a soft glow and are the main light source for the space. The design is inspired by the horizontal and layered landscape with clouds hovering above, decorated in a modern, minimalist style the basement restaurant is in keeping with the sophisticated mix of clientele it attracts.
The cuisine emphasizes healthy Indian food with a touch of the west harbouring a mix of modern specialities and traditional Indian dishes
Silka is without doubt another winning entry in the groovy SE1 dining stakes!
