Reviews for Rodizio Rico
I went there craving for a meat feast but was really disappointed. Most of the meat we got was chewy.
The waiters were not coming very frequently as you expect. I have been in a great Churrascaria caled Porcao in Rio de Janeiro and Rodizio Rico is not even close to the real thing. I have eaten much better meat at the French House in Soho and Buen Ayre in Hackney. Upper Street has so many options to offer like Gallipoli for example that there is just no reason to compromise with this one.
Rodizo Rico is a Brazilian bbq style restaurant. Waiters come round with big chunks of meat from beef and pork to saussage and chicken hearts and carve bits off at your table. You choose what you eat, how much and when. There is also an excellent salad bar with loads of cold salad dishes as well as rice and beans (staple Brazilian food) and cheese bread, another Brazilian treat. The staff are always friendly and the atmosphere relaxed, often with Brazilian music playing and sometimes live bands. The caipirinhas are nice and they also serve guarana (a Brazilian soft drink which is hard to come by in London). Whilst not quite as good as the "real thing" in Brazil, this is a lovely treat for those of us who miss Brazilian food and drink or anyone who just wants to try something a bit different.
If you read my reviews in the past you would know that I lived in Brazil for four years, so I went to the place last night with high expectations.
I was a little dissapointed, as they didnt have my favourite meat, which all "TOP NOTCH" Rodizio's have in Brazil, which is Fillet Mignon, This is normally served with a sauce, or just as it comes. It also didnt have the real Brazilian Linquica sausage, or Alcatra, or Fillet Argentine for that matter. Most dissapointingly was the fact they didnt have Palmito (Palm Hearts), on the salad bar.
If you are ever lucky enough to go to Rio, visit Mario's, or in Curitiba Napolitana, Danis, or Batel Grill.
The salads buffets are bigger, the meat choice is so much more, Mario's even has wild boar, on the rounds.
Considering I paid £101 for two, which consisted of a bottle of wine (£30) Chauteau Neuf de Pape, 2 x barbeques, and 2 x Mouse for desert, bottle of water, and 1 x bottle of Brahma. Then this is quite expensive for the quality of what you actually get.
On the positive side, the steak was good, especially the Picanha, the salad they did have was very good. And the service was excellent. This is similar to Brazil, but I will be very honest, Unlike a leading Rodizio, this is more like the type you may find in a Brazilian shopping mall (which by the way, can be quite good), but it is not Marios, Napolitana, or Curitibana, which are premier league in comparison.
A few years ago I went to similar Brazilian restaurants in Lisbon and loved having freshly cooked / BBQ meat brought to my table in droves. Thank god for Rodizio Rico as now Londoners have that same opportunity. If you're a vegetarian you will not like this place. From gorgeous succulent juicy rump, to lamb, chicken, pork, sausages, and chicken hearts your every desires of meat is fulfilled. As the waiters come with the meat fresh out of the grill on a large metallic stake, you can't help but gleam with your carnivorous eyes at the moment of intense flavours you will feel very shortly.
If you want something other than meat then you have a nice salad bar with pasta, salad, and taboule to go alongside your meat. The drinks are nice but not the best caiperinia I've had. Overall great place to have a large group of friends with which to have dinner. Make sure however that they are no vegetarians in your group!!
Been here a few times and its a great start to a lads night out. For ~£18 its 'all the meat' you can eat, (with the option to go to the salad bar if you're that way inclined!). Theres every type of meat available from beef to chicken livers, which are all cooked fresh, and with the waiters walking around the place constantly with new chunks of meat you can't go wrong. Word of warning though, be prepared to not go near meat for at least a day after your trip. Nice selection of beers too.
Taste the best of Brazilian BBQ with the best Brazilian drinks etc. You fell like in Brazil
