Stick to brick lane , they do it best
Indeed this is the new english food, not indian as it is heavily reinterpreted for our palate.
Nevertheless is pretty good priced and the casual night tends to be pretty good although it will repeat in your stomach for hours so don't get carried away or you won't sleep.
The spicy bit is not very spicy which is good as eating indian has become like a contest on who eats the hottest more horrible painful sauce.
Still, i go once a month and keeps a consistent level of both service and food.
I travel frequently to India, so finding a Restaurant here, doing "good" Indian food, can be sometimes tricky, However not to far from my office in Soho, is a great little Gem of a place Masala Zone.
I have visited here twice, once on a Friday lunchtime, and another time on a Thursday Evening. The place was pretty full, but the service was great, staff were friendly, presentable, the ambience was lively yet comfortable, and the decor modern, and in keeping with nearby Carnaby Street.
Pricewise, I felt good value, and the Non-veg Thali, is what I would recommend to meat eaters, and the veg Thali to vegetarians. A bill for three of us at Lunch, drinking beer, came to less than £60, so for a filling high quality lunch, less than £20 a head including drinks is for more great value.
Looking for somewhere cheap for a meal with friends, one of them suggested the Soho branch of Masala Zone. It is a trendy, busy, but pretty cheap Indian restaurant. No reservations are taken, but service is quick (and friendly) and seating plentiful, so you shouldn't have to queue too long for a table.
We all ordered some beers and a selection of meals - ranging from Indian style madras noodles, to traditional curry, to thalis (platters). The food was tasty and the serving sizes ensured we left sated.
Good value, nice atmosphere, tasty food. What more could you want?Always pop in if am nearby
Excellent place to go in Soho, the Thali is filling but not overkill, and the service good and swift. All round an ideal stopping-off place for Indian food in Soho.
Its a good one definately,i share my flat with chef so iam big fan of the food.Indian food for good value, i guess i like it.
This is my "local" indian when i feel like eating out instead of making it at home.
The prices are very reasonable, the decor funky and minimal and they make a good salted lassi.
I usually go for the chicken thail as its various dishes (veggie and non veg) all for about 10 quid. The food is superb quality - the masala is cooked properly and the food is not over chilly. Also the food does not taste like those indians who buy their sauces from cash n'carry's!
