Reviews for Whits

On Abingdon Road, just down from Kensington High Street, Whits is tucked away from the crowds. Open only at dinner (except Sunday lunch), it's *the* local restaurant for people who appreciate excellent classic food served by ultra-friendly staff.
We love the steak, anything with langoustine, the seafood risotto .. in fact, pretty much everything on the menu, whcih changes regularly.
Alas, they no longer have their souffle-only menu, but there is usually a souffle on the desrt menu.
Only gripe is that the wine list is a bit short, but that's not too much of a problem when the house champagne is so nice.
Expect to pay about £40 a head for 2 courses and wine.

Located just off Kensington High Street, Whits is a small, stylish looking restaurant albeit with a 'family feel'. It was recommended to me by a friend who has dined there several times and always had a great meal.

When we dined the staff were very friendly, especially one lady who appeared to be the owner. Service was great...until the end of the evening when they forgot our coffee and took forever to bring the bill...and when they finally did, they had added a double service charge!!

But the rest of the experience was great, so the hiccup at the end did not put us off, and we will be back.

We didn't have a starter....didn't really need one as they kept offering us more and more delicious freshly baked rolls. For main course, I had the Char grilled Rib Eye Steak with French Fries, Salad & Sauce Béarnaise - the steak was perfectly cooked, but the chips were too salty for my taste. My husband had the Roast Rack of Lamb with Cauliflower & Celeriac Gratin, Ratatouille & Caramelised Garlic Sauce - which he declared delicious. Desserts were tempting, but we were pretty full - so we shared one - the Banana Soufflé with Caramel Ice Cream. Yummo.
