Reviews for Chez Gerard
Can't say enough good things about this place!
It's been here for ages, never seems to be not busy.
Although it's in the heart of Covent Garden, it's not packed only with tourists as you'd expect. I guess it's due to the fact that the entrances are up steep granite stairs. I was introduced by a friend and most everyone I bring haven't been there before, so it's a hidden gem for sure.
The French cuisine may be from a "chain" menu but it's all freshly cooked which is very unusual for large companies these days. There's always new daily specials too.
The bar is a great meeting place, huge terrace on the balcony for smirting!
The staff are always a good looking bunch - never too up-themselves.
Attended this year's Work's xmas dinner/drinks at Chez Gerard in Covent Garden. A lovely location, our table was near the window over looking the square. The food was 'above average great' with the starters arriving quickly and the only negative being slightly cold soup.
As this was an all paid xmas party using a set menu I can't judge the prices, but from the main menu, the dishes sound fancy with even fancier high prices. The quantities of the meals are reasonable and I left feeling full up.
The waiters were helpful but there was clearly an air of pretentiousness about them.
All in all, I enjoyed this restaurant and would go there again.

I absolutely love this place. It is in a great location and if you are by the window you can look out over the bustling piazza or Covent Garden. The restaurant is always busy and bustling with a great atmosphere. The food is really good- the steaks are great especially the chateaubriand (not sure of spelling!). They always cook the steak perfectly. It is quite expensive, as you have to pay a cover charge and also pay for things like the bread and olives. However, you can use you Tesco clubcard deals vouchers here which is great. I have been here about 5 times, including on New Years Eve and have always loved it.
I love the French. I love French food. More than those two deadly seductive combinations I LOVE the sunshine, friends, a view and people watching. Chez Gerard's has all the aforementioned. For what is described as 'superior French cuisine', the menu is too 'obvious' for my liking.
My starter of Gravadlax Norvégien (thats salmon and beetroot starter for you anglofiles) was overally mayo'd. Less salmon and more runny sauce. Which is a shame as by the time of serving (they were horrendously busy) I could have been seduced by a less than perfect soggy side salad. By the mains the chef had clearly up'd their game, and we were back on track. Flavours were fresh, my fish dish was particularly good, and friends steak was met with Mmmmm's and 'more'. or that could have been the effect of sun and wine.
Come dessert our party were a tad stuffed. And try as we might we didn't have room for the temptations on offer. Next time, less starters, more mains and room for dessert. And definately some more fun in the sun.
The food is just average....quite expensive....Not "Real" french food :S
I'm OK with the food here - nothing great, and expensive, but in the summer when you can get an outside table it is one of the best lunch venues in town. Mind you, be careful where you sit, there is a lack of shade and I got sunburnt one long lunch time. Inside not so much fun and notas good as Chez Gerard on Charlotte St.
Alexandros are we looking at the same place! First the service is horrible. The waiter was busy collecting his tips than serving us. His aim appeared to be to serve the customers who wanted to pay first than us. His manners were just terrible.. at one point he said 'we dont have peroni mate..' I am not your 'mate' Mr horrible waiter! Anyway second comes the food which was overdone and the chips were simply wood chips pretending to be fried potatoes. the price is absurd. I would have enjoyed a meal at Mcdonalds much more and had to pay a fraction of the amount.
What a con! avoid like the plague!
I remember going to Chez Gerard eager to taste French cuisine. I was not let down. Located in the heart of Covent Garden, it may be packed with people but the food is too good to miss.
You should make a reservation before going, and ask for a table outside during the summer. The view of the market is magnificent, even though the sound of the Carousel may brake your nervous system!
The food is nice, I think I tried some kind of chicken, as well a duck platter which were both good.
Prices are not exactly low, but what do you expect in the middle of Covent Garden?!
