Reviews for Smithfield

I am unapologetic in saying that Bar and Grill is currently and has been for a while, one of my favourite restaurants in London. It has a very eclectic menu from steak to fajitas, pasta to shepherds pie so there should be something for everyone. The décor is monochrome with large black corner seats with big white tablecloths lit by massive black chandeliers - however, it is cleverly lit enough to still somehow have a warm appearance. There isn’t a massive selection of vegetarian options, but I have still got by in recent visits without being bored by the menu – possibly the awesome cocktails had some influence on my decision, made all the better for them being 2 for 1 in the early evening.
As with most trendy London restaurants, Bar and Grill isn’t the cheapest so it possibly isn’t for a regular meal, but for an occasion (or just maybe on pay day) the restaurant and the accompanying bar make for a good night out.

If there is anywhere in London where you could guarantee a good meat meal it should be Smithfield. The Bar & Grill actually looks out onto the main market area so carnivores can approach with confidence!

Bar and Grill Smithfield really does look great, with an attractive black & white interior split between a lively bar & ambient restaurant. Then there´s the matter of the food. An all-pleasing menu covers anything from oysters to pizza but is dominated by an off-the-grill section where you can pick from a wide range of protein, including ostrich, tuna, vegetable skewers & several types of beef.

The star dish has to be Kobe Beef which is available as a fillet, rump or sirloin cut. This style of beef - from the wagu breed - comes from Japan and they import it themselves. Frankly this beef will blow your head off - the best you will ever taste! The Kobe is very expensive but worth every penny. The cattle are fed on a diet of grain and beer (yes beer!). Being very high in protein, this puts a lot of fat on the animal, the marbling is very pronounced and as it is cooked it is constantly basting itself giving an phenomenal, intense flavour.

Chef´s Speciality Dish:

9oz Kobe Beef Fillet Steak - what else!
