I've been twice, but only to the sushi bar upstairs. I had sashimi and my wife had tempura on one occasion and fried tofu on another. All I can say is that the food is delicious. The fish was very fresh and all the food was cooked and served with the care and attention to detail one expects from the Japanese. It is quite pricey if you don't go for a meal special but, as a treat, it is worth it.

I am a fan of Japanese cuisine, so when friends suggested we meet up for a meal at a fancy Japanese restaurant we jumped at the chance. We went to Matsuri, the High Holborn branch. We met our friends at the restaurant and relaxed for a while in the small bar area, enjoying a cold Asaki beer. We were then taken downstairs and shown our table - located around a teppan-yaki grill.

We had a special menu, which included a starter of sashimi, sushi or tempura; miso soup; a choice of chicken, beef or seafood teppan-yaki for mains, served with rice; and lemon sorbet for dessert. This was a special deal menu at 20 pounds a head, which also included 1 beer or glass of champagne.

It was a delicious meal, and it is always fun to watch the chefs at work right in front of you. Next time we go I will have to try their Fireball ice cream, which is cooked on the teppan-yaki grill in a ball of flames!
