Reviews for Tomo
Once upon a time we used to be big eaters at well known Pizza place in N4. But now there's Tomo close by, we have found food so varied and at such a good price that we don't need to go that far anymore! There's something magical about taking a walk through Priory Park then going for a fancy bite at Tomo's Pizzeria in Hornsey High Street.
The team are passionate about food and offer outstanding service in a family environment complete with high chairs for infants:)
Chatted with the Pizzaiolo (and co-owner) for 1/2 hour about music, as they really know how to create a good ambience and I wanted to know why. I learnt is a former a DJ and did some touring with Jazzanova once upon a time. So, you can imagine how cool the music is here...lots of Nu-Jazz and deep beats that are really as tasteful as the food.
If you get closer to the kitchen, there's a creative fire between the two masters: Pizzaiolo and Gourmet Chef. To keep both happy we order one pizza and one pasta/main dish!
There's nothing like a fresh base that's built up with just the right quantities of Passata and toppings - Tomo get the balance right. Whereas large chain companies often bury your pizza in an avalanche of straight-from-frozen Mozzarella (as if to cover the fact that the toppings are, well, straight from frozen!), Tomo bring fresh hand-picked ingredients to the Pizza and prepare it right before our eyes in an open kitchen.
There are about 50 entries on the menu - each time we go there we steadily work our way through.
Everything is done to perfection, no matter what the recipe. I particularly love Calzone, and Tomo do this with a cracking Caper twist: also, it's enormous. Fiorentina is a must if you like eggs (Tomo boil the eggs and slice 'em up I just the way I like on my pizza - well done Tomo). All the salads are divine, delectable dishes, either as sides or mains.
Now (last and definitely not least, chef ;) - the pasta and starters are worth queueing for. Fish lovers should route for FETTUCCINE CREMOSO con GAMBERETTI, where the King Prawns surf effortlessly on light waves of pasta and garlic / cream sauce.
Tomo do a couple of tasty Gnocchi dishes with just the right toppings (the meat one is my favourite).
Vegetarians can go all-out at Tomo, but if you're a veggie wondering where to start, try the classic BUFALA pizza with it's exquisite cherry tomoatoes, whole-leaf basil and Buffalo Mozzarella balls...or a simple pasta dish like TAGLIATELLE ALL’ALFREDO -light and flavoursome. All the portions are blowout by the way...
As mentioned before, the menu is pretty conclusive and it's best for one to experience the diversity for oneself, so go there (with the whole family) and check Tomo out for a real surprise, you won't be disappointed.
The (lengthy) menu is on their website at www.tomopizzeria.com

I spotted this little place a few weeks ago, its new and it was bustling on a weekday night, not bad for an almost unassuming little Restaurant on Hornsey High Street.
I decided to pop down there last night to try it, spotted it was a BYO place. Excellent popped up to the wine shop bought a couple of bottles and in the 5 mins we had been gone the spare tables had too. So the very friendly owner reserved us a table and we went to the pub for a swift half.
On returning, our table was just ready....as promised and we sat down, popped our second bottle of wine in the fridge and perused the long menu of amazingly priced food.
The atmosphere was lovely, the music was awesome and the smell of everyone else's dinner and the smells coming from the open kitchen were a delight.
Calamari was ordered for starters, great sized portion, the batter was like nothing i've had before, much better than a wealth of much more expensive independent or chain restaurants. NExt up was pizza, caramalised onion, parma ham, mascapone, and the better half had a lovely really fresh 'summer pizza' with spinach tomatoes and mozzarella. The pizza was massive, and again, one of the best i have had in ages. i couldn't finish it so in a box it went for a cold snack later!
dessert had to be tried, lemon cheesecake, my favorite, and again, this was sublime, half biscuit half baked cheesecake with fresh lemon rind. Followed by a very tasty double espresso. So the night was over and just the bill left to pay, i wont spoil the surprise but it was amazing value, i expect prices may go up a little, but they would be justified in doing so.
Overall this is clearly going to become my new favourite haunt. The staff were lovely, the music and vibe was great and the food was the tastiest i've had anywhere for a long time.
Very very highly recommended.
