This restaurant has won awards for best cheap restaurant in the country from The Guardian.

So it was quite a surprise to visit and be charged £7-£8 (plus rice) for a microwave-reheated dish of curry selected from a metal dish on the counter.

It was quite busy with Islington Yummy Mummy types, and the food *was* delicious, but I was just a bit disappointed when I was expecting a cheap and cheerful Afghan place to end up in somewhere that's just another Islington joint.

I have been there on 25/07/07.
Afghan Kitchen is a tiny restaurant close to angel tube. When we arrived , there were no sits. One of the staff said it will take 5 minutes. We waited 15 minutes ,already starving... We sat on the top floor where tables are shared with other people.
The interior is very simple/modern without any Afghan traces. The staff is overworked and barely coping with the flow. We ordered chicken with yogurt-
very tasty sauce, although the chicken was a bit stiff. Lamb with spinach- tasty, although missing salt. papaya with yogurt- fantastic/must try!
and Afghan bread- fresh from the oven... The food came quickly because it was made in advance and the meal was great. We had a normal red wine to go with the food. The dessert was surprising: Baklava...(That's not Afghan right?) anyhow it was great Baklava and I even took some home (£1 each).
We paid about £16 each including wine. To sum up- Afghan Kitchen is a good place to eat but suffers from small space and staff who can hardly manage.
Works very well as a take away. Will go back there soon but only when I have plenty of time...

I can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet. Cheap and lovely afghan food. There are only about 8 dishes on the menu, the spinach and lamb is great and the pumpkin and yoghurt is yummy. Really nice bread too. Be warned it is a tiny place.
