Reviews for Stanza Restaurant & Bar
I went the first night of the new chef's menu.
It is simple, easy to read, (will change regularly) so I'm told, so hurry to have the belly of pork, caramalised apple and crushed potatoes...heavenly, my partners fish pie was pretty special too.
I had heard the service was friendly, and it didn't dissapoint (not over zealous).
The bar seems like a happening place, with Poker and Bingo nights advertised.
We were here for Valentine's Day and the food was truly excellent if rather limted in choice due to the enforced set menu. Service was very polite and efficient. managing to be friendly as well. All in all a great meal.
Drinks in the bar afterwards were also very good, however later in the evening the atmosphere changed considerably and a few "shady" characters appeared. My girlfriend went to the toilet and overheard conversations suggesting there were a few "professional" ladies in the bar tonight with some rich men. Put a bit of a downer on an otherwise excellent evening.
How refreshing to eat in central London and enjoy a British sourced menu. Our theatre menu was reasonably priced, my Fillet of Haddock was delicous and inventive and the Sticky Toffee Pudding light and sticky as it should be. Definately a place to try again.
I used my Taste London card there last night with my girlfriend and got 50% off the food bill. Even though we got £34 of the meal, it still cost just shy of £100 (we did have a £40 bottle of chianti though which was nice, it was supposed to be a 2004 but a 2005 appeared at the table (not professional) - didn't mind too much as it was nice).
The food was very average, I had the warm goats cheese starter which wasn't warm but tasted ok, then had the leg of duck which was over over cooked and was very dissapointing. The white chocolate cheesecake was quite nice though.
My girlfriend had crayfish starter which tasted like it was dressed in very cheap thousand island dressing. The rib eye steak she got was under cooked as well.
The service charge was calculated at 12.5% of the total bill without the discount which is very cheeky. The service was generally a bit 'over familiar' but ok.
The place was empty at 9:30pm when we left, never a good sign!
I have had far(!!!!) better meals for circa. £100 without using the taste london card.
Needless to say I won't be going back there again - NOT RECOMMENDED.
Might complain directly to get a freebie out of it but to be honest, I have no interest in going back there again.
i realy think i have discoverd an amazing restaurant in the piccadily area, good and relaxed stanza will give a taste of great food and fine wine.
Do it just like me, try it well recomended.
