Reviews for The Terrace In The Fields
The Terrace in the Fields is a very confused resraurant, it is trying to be too many things at the same time - Business Lunch Venue, Eco-Friendly Building and High Class Restaurant. Unfortunatly the Business Lunch seems to have taken over the whole restaurant, with evening weekend evenings with no ambience. Having said this the food is very good and imaginatively presented.
Endorse the review below .Great setting , value and unusual but flavoursome food .Acoustics poor and service friendly but haphazard.
I go there with a friend for a seasonal lunch 4 times a year. I took Professor Magellan to the Garden Cafe and he reviewed that well. I think he and others would like the open air ambience of Lincolns Inn Fields where you can eat al fresco on a deck and watch the tennis add lawyers. For lunch with a bottle of rose and one beer it came to £62 which was good value. The salads are fresh with unusual ingredients and the seared salmon I have ordered twice- crisp and succulent.
Last time they did not have my reservation and the greeting was luke warm and confused - one of the ways I judge a restaurant is the initial reaction. However a friendly black girl called Lovely remembered me and gave me a gleaming smile and all was forgiven. I will definitely continue to use this restaurant for lunch but I'm not sure how the evening access problems affect the popularity and ambience .
This may look like a shed tucked away in the leafy gardens of Lincoln's Inn Fields, but as soon as you get inside you see that it's anything but. The cool Scandinavian-looking light wood and pale blue furniture and the stylish flower arrangements are the backdrop to some seriously good food.
I've been here twice now, once for dinner on a chilly winter evening, and once for lunch on a not much warmer spring day, but I'm determined to come back again as it would make a really good summer destination.
On my first visit I had an excellent Caesar salad with jerk chicken and pancetta, good duck leg (and beautifully cooked vegetables with plenty of bite), and finished with a very good crème brulee with wild berry compote. Chris had caramelised onion tart with goats cheese, jerk chicken with garlic mash, cheese plate – all very good. The food was all nicely presented. With a bottle of Spanish wine and water this came to £85 (including and service). Talking of service, this was OK but occasionally a bit odd – e.g. the waiter didn't seem to know they had mixed vegetables as a menu item. Similarly on a recent lunch time visit there was a bit of a gap between the arrival of our main courses and the mashed potato we'd ordered to accompany them – but when the mash came it was excellent as was my warm squid salad and my friend's curried goat. At lunch time they do a bargain 2 courses for £11.50, or 3 for £13.95, but we went for the a la carte with its more adventurous and varied options.
By the way, if you visit in winter the gate to the park closes at about 8.30 so you need to be inside the restaurant by then – a waiter will escort you to the gate when you leave to unlock it for you.
