Reviews for Incognico
I went on one of their numerous promotions which was nice.
Arriving from the busy tottenham Court Road I found the staff friendly, unpretentious and helpful.
The food was great and sadly, the catch of adding extras meant the meal was expensive but the overall experience made it worthwhile so I didn't mind.
If I had more moeny I would take my friends there regularly.
I've spent a couple of fantastic, memorable evenings here. It's a good central place for special occasions, but despite its excellent location near Cambridge Circus, not many people seem to know about it. Maybe this is because the restaurant doesn't draw attention to itself- instead of tables positioned needily by the windows, a curtained facade protects the diners from unwanted onlookers. Dark leather chairs slouch pleasingly next to sparkling white tablecloths and glassware. The ambience inside is covert and private, making it slightly romantic and coy, but it would work equally well for business lunches.
The food I have eaten here has never been anything less than superb. The portions look light, but are rich enough to be satisfying. The asparagus risotto really stands out, as do their fish dishes. The sommeliers aren't pushy at all, and make gentle, helpful suggestions.
A really classy place if you're looking for somewhere pre-or post theatre, or anytime, really.
Looking for a nice, central place to meet up with friends for dinner, I came across Incognico, a cosy brasserie style restaurant in the West End. Incognico looks great - mood lighting, elegant decor and smiling staff. Food is well presented and tasty. There is a small bar area where you can relax before your meal. There is also a private room if you have a large group.
Service was not fabulous, but adequate. Overall, it was a good evening.
So, the food. We were dining on a special offer - 3 courses and a glass of champagne for £22 each, we considered this a bargain considering the quality and presentation of the meals. For starters we had the Ravioli of Goats Cheese & Red Pepper; the Gnocchi, which just melted in your mouth; the Salted Cod which was perfectly salty; and the Serrano Ham, Mozzarella & Rocket salad that was a bit light on the Mozzarella.
Main courses were particularly delicious - especially the Honey Roast Duck breast with Pommes Fondant. We also had the Rack of Lamb with Provencal Vegetables, Black Olive and Madeira; and the Spatchcock of Quail, which were also enjoyable.
Wine for the evening was an interesting bottle of Chateau Musar, which is a surprisingly good Lebanese red wine.
Last but not least, dessert. The Pecan Tart won my vote, whilst the others enjoyed the Honeycomb Iced Parfait with Raspberries; and the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Caramel Ice Cream, which was polished off with a smile.
** Returned to Incognico in June 2008 and had a really enjoyable meal. Excellent lamb dish in particular. Incognico isn't a first choice for me, but a good standby if you want a decent meal in a quiet environment **
