Reviews for YumYum Thai Restaurant

This has to be the worse Thai in North London. How they ever won prizes for great gourmet is beyond me. The food is pre-cooked and not fresh at all. The chicken is minced/shredded and clotted together to make it look whole. Unbelievbly pricy for what you get. Don't be fooled by the pretty front, it's an absolute con. GO anywhere else but here for a Thai, try Cats in Finsbury Park, Isarn in Islington, any Busaba, just stay away from here. Dreadful!!!

Oh my god. This place is my favourite restaurant ever. First off, it's location. It's in a coverted mansion off the high street. There's a large courtyard with pagodas and fountains and you can choose to eat outside if you wish. I recommend that you do because a warm evening out there will make you giddy with joy. The food is solid Thai cusine. No radical dishes, just traditional Thai made to perfection. The prices aren't too expensive either, making this place really good value. The staff are helpful and keen and because you'll leave this place feeling very satisfied, Yum Yum's is well worth a visit.

Yum Yums is situated in a beautiful listed building just around the corner from Church Street on Stoke Newington High Street. The restaurant is large inside, nicely decorated and when full is quite lively. It's a nice place to go for a meal with friends or on a low-key date.

Compared to the range of other options in the vicinity (Turkish, Indian, Seafood) the food is rather overpriced (2.50 for prawn crackers) and fairly bland, as far as thai food goes. The seafood Tom Yum contained some nice meaty pieces of scallop, prawn and squid but the broth was insipid and the seafood felt like it had just been thrown in at the end. At odds with another reviewer, I felt the classic Pad Thai was greasy with overcooked prawns and beansprouts and no crunchy peanuts to be seen. Similarly, the scallops with basil and chili was a waste of perfectly good seafood. The sauce tasted grainy and cheap.

Service was average, though our party was largely left alone towards the end of the meal and we felt in no way rushed out the door. Meal for three with starters and one bottle of wine came to £80.

If you are looking for fresh and beautifully cooked Thai, this is not the place to go but does provide a comfortable option for an average meal.

I was excited about trying this place out after being invited for a double-birthday family meal. Checked out the website- very impressive, seem to have put a lot of thought into their marketing. If only they had lived up to their own hype.
The food was, for Thai, on the expensive side and wasn't particularly impressive. The curry I had was supposed to be award-winning, but seemed fairly run-of-the-mill.
At any one time there seemed to be 3 or 4 waiting staff swarming around our table to take our plates away before we had finished or distribute our wine, so that the bottles finished quickly. The staff lacked any charm or empathy and got a very simple drinks order wrong.
At the end of the meal a waiter barked at us 3 times to prompt us for tea and coffee and when we declined the bill landed on our table within seconds, without our request.
One of our party whose birthday we were celebrating too 10-15 minutes to complain and this led to one of the management staff bringing us a round of apple schnapps shooters, despite a few of us suggesting that it might be a better option to give the birthday girls a cake or ice-cream. The apologies we did get were mumbled and not exactly heart-felt.
I certainly won't be investing in the gift-vouchers advertised on the website.
AVOID!

When the food came it was fine (though a bit overpriced)though we were given about 3 minutes to eat it before the waiters tried to take our plate from us. I had to chase 2 different waiters to retrieve plates of food which we hadn't finished eating from. Main courses arrived while we were still eating our starters and the waiting staff were so eager to get rid of us that they managed to get a whole bottle of red wine into 3 glasses, and put our bill on the table when we hadn't asked for it and before we'd been offered more drinks or dessert. 9 of us arrived at 7pm and our bill was delivered to us an hour later. Not a relaxing experience. In fairness to the manager I was given a free apple snapps but it definitely wasn't enough to persuade me to go there ever again.

This restaurant moved from Church St (the Upper St of Hackney for it's selection of restaurants) to a dead end side of Stoke Newington High St - but who cares when you're in a listed building with a lovely fountain and FRESH carnation flowers outside? Visited this restaurant for the first time on Mothers Day. Restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful - there is one guy who wears glasses (thick black frames) he is adorable and so helpful! Food was also amazing - try red curry with duck and ask for it "spicy" YUM deffo! Went back less than 5 days later and had Mussaman curry (beef) - absolutely delicious. Will be coming back soon definately!

Food's alright (if it's warm when it finally shows up), but the bad staff make it a horrible experience. They don't care, and at one point I had to ask our waiter if I was disturbing him by asking for something. Avoid this place.

Dreadful place, staff incredibly rude and inattentive, food took ages to arrive and when it did it was cold, order for drinks ignored three times, and when we walked out after the cold starters they had the audacity to add a service charge to the bill. Poor.

A large solid Thai restaurant with decent bar area that has changed the perception of the area. There's varied seating. My favourite is the shoes-off low zone next to a small indoor fish pool. Service and attention is good and the owner regularly greets everyone in the door.

The food is solid ... although the starters seem to depend on a lot of fried things. Fab mains include the 'ol favourite Pad Thai and the full fish dish.

The place is big so you shouldn't have to wait long to be seated.
