Tortilla is home to the best tacos and burritos in London. We don't do cactuses and oversized sombreros. We serve fresh, wholesome California-style Mexican cuisine for eat-in or take-away, for around a fiver. Choose from a range of toppings, including grilled chicken, adobo steak, braised pork (or vegetarian), whole black beans and pinto beans (not refried), fluffy Spanish rice, peppers & onions, savoury guacamole and crisp salsas - made fresh in-house every day. We have a range of soft drinks and Mexican beers to choose from as well as our tasty slushy margaritas. If you've been craving some decent Mexican food in London, you've found the right place.

Reviews for Tortilla

Finally I've found a home of tasty burrito in London! Have been living here for 1.5 yrs now and really missed a decent tortilla. Of course you can make your own at home but it's def not the same.

So to start with, I went to Tortilla in Angel last week. I really love this area, so many nice pubs and restaurants to go to. Tortilla is very easy to find - you literally get off the tube station and cross the street and on your left you can notice the store. I went there around 6 pm and it was fairly busy, but you could easily find a place to seat.

It took just few minutes to see how my food was being made (they wrap it in front of you and what i like is that they wear gloves all the time) and I could start eating.

Good Lord! I really missed burritos... very tasty beef (you can also choose pork or chicken) plus pico de gallo and guacamole = mmmmm... great job. I also took tortilla chips with different dips - you can have medium or very spicy salsa, sour cream and of course pico and guacamole. To drink i chose modelo, but they've got much more beers to choose and margarita.

I'm sooooo coming back there.

As much as I love Frida Kahlo, I love Maxican food!!!!

One of my friends invited me down to Tortilla for some nice supper. Even though I am a vegetarian, I was absolute amazed by the taste of my burrito (Even my friends loved my one!!!!). Moreover, the staff showed an outstanding customer service, its also worth to eat in and enjoy the lovely ambiance.

Surly, I will came back to enjoy the Mexican way of food.

I went to Tortilla with a couple of friends recently and we really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the place was nicely laid out and decorated, making for a really nice atmosphere. I’ll have to admit to a bit of bias because I’m a big fan of Mexican food but the burritos here are very good. You can have them to take away too. I had the braised pork burrito (the large is...well...very large) which came in a giant soft tortilla wrap with black beans, rice, cheese, guacamole, onions and a nicely punchy chilli sauce (but you can choose your fillings). It was great. I had it with a Mexican beer I’d not tried before, called Pacifico, which was superb. It’s a bit more full flavoured than Sol, or Corona but isn’t too heavy for the style of food.
I have been saying for some time that I wish the was a Mexican takeaway in England like Taco Bell in the USA, and I’m pleased to report that, not only is there a Mexican takeaway here now to satisfy my cravings, it blows the likes of Taco Bell out of the water thanks to the high quality of ingredients and great atmosphere. And it’s not just an excellent takeaway but also a lovely place to go for an evening meal.

I visited Tortilla yesterday for my first-ever burrito experience. I must say i was surprised by the fact how cheap but nice the place was at the same time. The burrito itself cost only like 5 pounds and i got so full (and that was only a medium-sized burrito). Since i hadn't eaten burritos before i was astonished by the fact how healthy it really is. I've always thought of burritos as fast food, but being able to see and choose what goes into my burrito i changed my mind completely. I am definitely going back there again and recommend all you burrito-virgins join me, :)

A brief agreement with allolex's review.

My title about sums it up. I've had some good burritos in London (notably El Panzon in Brixton) but Tortilla is the only place I've been to in London where the taste and ingredients in the burrito were what I would expect to receive in an American burrito joint. I think it's important to make this distinction since the USA has so co-opted Mexican food and there's a proliferation of wrap/burrito joints which have cropped up across the country (especially in college towns) that have changed our expectation of what a burrito should taste like. Probably to the dis-taste of many Americans who are fans of their regional variation on mexican food.

My impression was also confirmed by the fact that just about everyone in the place was American!

I've only been once but was underwhelmed. The service was abrupt and I had to wait while someone behind me jumped the queue. I've had better burrito's too from Mucho Mas up the road or Freebird in Exmouth Market. Maybe I caught them on a bad day? It hasn't inspired me to go back.

I've been to this restaurant twice since it opened. I'll have to hedge on an unqualified vote of confidence in the food at Tortilla, but they seem to have the right idea when it comes to customer service. I grew up in Southern California, by the way.

The ingredients are fresh, and every burrito is prepared fresh in front of you, using chafing dishes and containers much like you might find at Subway.

You get a choice of two kinds of rice ("Spanish"--actually Mexican, and lemon/coriander) and two kinds of beans (pinto or black--go with the pintos for a truly Californian experience).

You should also be able to choose from three kinds of meat, but I haven't yet had the carnitas (pork); it was not available because they were still "perfecting" the dishes. Carnitas is by far my favourite burrito meat, so that was a disappointment. The other options are, of course, chicken and beef (carne asada [de res]).

The hot sauces aren't hot and you shouldn't take their advice for the pairings. The salsa verde is better with pork than with anything else, but I'll always go for the hot sauce.

There are other ingredients as well. Guacamole costs 50p extra.

They have a tendency to overfill the burritos so that they burst when you are eating them. This is a sign that the staff are still learning the ropes. Try asking for less rice, maybe, since it's not really an integral part of a burrito.

The staff also got the order wrong on three of the five burritos we have ordered here. The mistakes were fixed, no questions asked.

Their rubbish disposal system is abysmal, with frustrated customers just piling the rubbish up on the bins.

I recommend this place, but I think the burritos at the place up the road are a bit better (and the hot sauce is actually hot!) It's a pretty close call, though, since I think that Mucho Más overcharges on guacamole (£1).

what a great mexican - agree beers are good and the tortillas are even better

This place has the best burrito I have had since moving to London.... good beers too!
