Reviews for Tabernacle

An only slightly pretentious (itself worth a mention in these parts), bog-standard bar/restaurant in the heart of Shoreditch. They do breakfast offers which don't look too bad, but I've only ever been for dinner with work, which was nice if nothing special. They have the usual competent bar staff serving decent cocktails, and it's usually pretty popular as an after-work drink spot, which means it's rammed from 5:30 to 7, then totally empty. Probably worth a shot, if you're in the area.

Tabernacle is a pub on Tabernacle Street….. as it happens !
I went there 2 nights ago for a friend's birthday do. Was very nice. OK, as you can tell from the picture it wasn't exactly packed but that was on a Tuesday night and the picture was taken at 10.30pm. The drinks are what you would expect from a pub, the food however, was a bit better. The “chips and Mayo” had a twist to them (called garlic) the mayo was actually Aioli which makes a difference, They also serve an exquisite “mozzarella on toast” with rocket leaves and olive oil. Finally their Hummus is served slightly spicy (could be a specific recipe or just paprika powder overkill…. Don't know) with a strips of toasted pita bread. All in all, quite a good place. Completely out of town for me though which makes it hard to get back home but the atmosphere was good, possibly a tad “guys going to the pub after work” feel but I say again, it was a Tuesday.

Wouldn't go out of my way to go back because it is so far away and there are so many other similar pubs in London closer to home but if I was in the area I would definitely go back
