Kenneth, you are right! My name is Dan, and I am the restaurant manager at eat 17. The reduction in the size of the full english breakfast is a direct response to the rising food costs. I can now see the error of my ways, and am pleased to announce that as of today we are adding an extra sausage, an extra 50g of baked beans, the entire portobella mushroom, an extra hash brown and a slice of fried bread without increasing the price.
I am sorry to hear you didn't like the smoothie, however, we do have 9 to choose from, so if you do give us another chance then hopefully you might prefer a different one.
In terms of the sticky tables, I can only apologise, and ensure you I will be keeping a very close eye on the waitresses when they are resetting tables from now on.
Thank you very much for your feedback, I do hope you give us another chance and do fill yourself up without parting with anymore cash.

    A quarter of a mushroom?
    Current
    Utter disappointment.
Eat17 was an favourite of ours, and we just went for breakfast for a treat.
    What's happened?

    Sticky tables? Eurgh.
Full english breakfast was one sausage, one tiny egg, one rasher of bacon, a QUARTER of a mushroom, a tiny hash brown. For 6.50. There was nothing full about it.
    The smoothie was awful.
I'm still hungry. I used to leave stuffed.

I will be avoiding until I see a "new staff" sign in the window.

Just tried this place for the first time and have to pass on the news - the food was wonderful (particularly the soup and the chorizo - not together!). The service was very friendly, if sometimes a little amateurish, but the place hasn't been open long and the younger staff will learn, hopefully. The main waiter was very professional, competent and charming. We shall be returning, dragging friends along, very soon. It is a worthy complement to the excellent Village Kitchen and Orford Saloon which are nearby. This street is now, literally, spoilt for choice.

I have eaten here since it opened and they have gone through a very bad time recently and are the first to admit it BUT they are working hard to put things right and I like the fact they know where they have gone wrong and are doing everything they can to put it right They are young and have exciting ideas so give them another chance, I did and I wasn't disappointed.

The trouble is that you started out well and let the place go and was really arrogant when anybody challenged you. I had a lovely lovely breakfast when I first went in and then had a succession of terrible ones when I subsequently went in and have never been back. All the cooking staff were unfriendly had looked at the customers with blank, unfriendly expressions and were constantly heard slagging off the paying customers. I heard that the brothers have a wealthy father and set the place up for them. If this is the case then there is more to a restaurant than throwing money at the place and a customer base takes years to build up.

You lot have a lot to learn. You cannot charge top money for basic food, serve it up badly and then treat people with contempt. Remember, you are in Walthamstow and it may be getting a bit trendy but I have been here for 40 years and they have been saying it for that amount of time and there is a long way to go yet.

I think you have missed a great opportunity by your inconsistency and the initial euphoria when you all thought you had cracked it, has sadly gone. I will not be coming back anyhow as I said to the girl when I last got raw food that enough is enough.

    Hi
My name is Chris and I (along with my brothers James & Dan and Siobhan) run eat 17. Can I firstly say how much it hurts to read these comments and let you know that every criticism is taken very seriously.
Ok, I know this won't change the experience that you, your husband and step-daughter had, but there has been one factor which has really damaged the food at eat 17 on some occasions and that is our head chef. I hate making excuses, but he went from being top-notch to terrible! On the night that you ate here, he actually walked out on us after being here for a year (since we opened actually). Luckily, we have our new head chef starting today, who we've waited months for. He is amazing! He's been head chef in a 3 michelin star restaurant for 24 years! as well as Hard Rock Cafe in London and loads of others! He's an incredibly talented and experienced chef and exactly what we've been looking for to sharpen up our product. Please please get in touch with me if you read this posting, as I would love to change your mind and have yourself, husband and daughter back again to try our new summer menu as of June 2nd. And that goes for kladski, debe17, happylondonguy, goosey, mike s and anyone else who has had a bad experience here. Please give us another chance and we won't let you down. My number is 07792 900 705 and email is chris@eat17.co.uk if you would like to contact me directly.
Please accept our sincere apologies for your bad experience at eat 17.

    Crazy English Bummer
    Current
Sadly there are no stars for an appalling performance this evening. Myself, husband and step daughter went for a simple plate of cold cuts and main courses; two of burgers and one of chicken. It took 25 minutes for the cold cuts to come; 25 minutes to plate up already sliced meats from the deli next door and another few for me to walk back inside and request the bread. After this we waited another 40 to be told, without apology, that the 'chef had a problem with his eyes' and one of the burgers had been missed. Would we wait for all the food to come together? Yes please- is that really a question?! 10 minutes later we were told that it would be 5 minutes. 15 minutes later we walked. On our way out we were waved off with 'Do you want that to go?' and not a hint of an apology (we left £20 for drinks and starter - we are not that graceless). We have tried to love this place; we have patronised it many times, breakfast, lunch, tea, jouces on the way to the gym. latttes on the way to work - there's no community spirit when you get treated like that. Frankly if the fantastic Irish maitre d' isn't in charge (not to mention the even more industrious juice queen) this place just falls apart. The maitre d' hopefully will read this and make amends to future customers. Long live the Village Kitchen, Orford Tapas and the absolutely faultless La Ruga - Eat 17 you have become far too complacent with hollow adoration from hangover casualties and young families that aren't welcome elsewhere by failing to look after the people that will really keep you going in booze and 3 course meal covers. Wise up.

    what a shame!
    Current
been coming here for a while now and always had a great breakfast, good coffee and juices/smoothies.
We recently had some friends stay for the weekend and we decided to head to Eat 17 for breakfast on the Sunday morning.. spent the walk to the restaurant bigging the place up , saying how nice it was, and how our guests were in for a treat... oh dear...
I have to agree with DebE17, it has gone downhill.. Sausages seemed deep fried and were uncooked in the middle, service was awful, toast no longer available with an english breakfast??, you have to pay 95p for 2 small pieces of toast! whats that all about!!!
Was a real shame because I used to love a decent fry up with quality produce, great coffee, and a read of the papers in this place, but I shant be going back in a hurry..
I suspect they have got a bit complacent seeing as there is no real competition in the 'village' area.. but it was VERY quiet in there for a Sunday morning..not even half full.. maybe myself and DebE17 arent the only ones who feel this way??
    a real shame!

    Gone Downhill

I have eaten at Eat17 on numerous occasions since it first opened and am sad to say that standards have fallen. Last Friday I had a terrible experience: the menu has been drastically reduced; I waited 35 minutes after ordering only to be told the requested dish had sold out; the food when it arrived was luke-warm; when I complained I was advised the only option was to microwave it!!! Spills on the floor were not cleaned up, nor was the table wiped down. I certainly will not be going back.
