Reviews for Hache Burger Connoisseurs
Best burgers in town. Hands down. No competition.
When I first moved to London from Toronto this was one of the first places my wife and I ate at and we've been fans ever since. I was vegetarian for near on 10 years, including the first 3 years we lived here, and the vege blue-cheese burger is amazing - nice to have a treat as a vego in a burger restaurant. These days for me it's all about the Catalan burger. Amazing every time. I prefer the Camden Town branch over Chelsea, but then it is on my doorstep. Much cosier though I think.
Yesterday I asked the question of where to find a good cheap eat in Camden. I was pointed in the direction of Hache and we certainly weren't disappointed.
We arrived here (on a Weds night) at just past 7pm. We were sat in the front section on one of the last tables available, which proved rather chilly as many more people came in (and were told they'd have a 15 min wait). It's worth booking for a warmer seat.
After much deliberation (there are many choices), I settled on a medium rare beef burger with stilton, and to share some frites and wedges. My burger came perfectly cooked and with just the right accompaniments; a little red onion, some lettuce and one slice of tomato. The floury bun held together well. It's a fine testament to the quality of the burger when one almost bites the tips of the fingers off in the haste to eat more of it (not that I did ... eh hem).
Frites and wedges were very nice indeed, especially the accompanying garlic mayo and salsa; they are quite large and we happily shared 2 portions between 4 of us.
All in all, a great burger and I would certainly return. With a bottle of wine, we paid £61 between us which is very reasonable. One quibble I had is that I had to ask for the bill twice and then go up to the counter to get them to sort it out, but we were in a rush.
Tasty, properly homemade burgers, cosy living room layout and decor, central location - what's not to like? I really liked it here.
Do beware the 'ordering too many sides of chips' pitfall. One to share is plenty, really.
Talking burgers can quite often evoke and arouse disputations and deliberations among the beef patty cognoscenti on where to go for the best sandwich in town. I’ve been prompted a few times that the burgers served at The Ivy and Maze Grill are the best in London. I’ve tried the one (AA Gill’s determinate choice) at the former on two occasions and it was nothing spectacular, soggy and rather slapdash, and as for the latter I think I’ll only go there for the steaks. If an equivalent of the Premiership league was suggested for restaurants serving the best burgers in the country then I will not hesitate to say that Haché belongs to one of the "Big Four".
These posh tasting steak haché burgers are indeed bespoke and thankfully they don’t cost the earth. Wonderful innovations on the burgers are offered from the Atkins friendly version of Steak Au Naturel to the Le Sicilian (with Parma Ham and melted Premium Mozarella Cheese). Pescitarians can also be equally elated with Haché’s choices of delicious chunky Cod and Tuna burgers. Both fat and thin (to comply with the French theme) chips are available as sides. The puddings are pretty much accomplished; the delicious Banoffee Pie is gregarious in size so it’s not entirely applicable to the solo diner and the superior Chocolate Brownies served with Ice Cream are dangerous enough to postpone any imminent diets. The ambience is lively, crowded and the lighting in the dining room annoyingly incandescent. The service in restaurants of this ilk can be hit or miss, so good luck; but don’t let that get in the way of the food.
To the Casey family who owns this joint, I take me hat off and please do not turn your fine efforts into a GBK, FBC, ABC, or XYZ chain.
Burger was without doubt the best I've come across. Also, I've never had onion rings so good.
We ordered two bowls of chunky chips, had we known how many you get we would have only ordered one.
Will definitely recommend and will be paying another visit soon.....
This place sell beautifully crafted burgers with lashing of chips at around £15 a head.
The only thing is if you are in a rush at lunchtime you will need to allow extra time!
Well its got it all. Fab fresh food, proper meat, cool music and a price that you dont need to mortgage your other half to pay off. If your in Camden and want a mix of people .. only place to go.
I've been spoilt for Hamburgers lately, there is a place in Blenheim Terrace, St Johns Wood that has a fair stab. High quality beef and bun, mature cheddar etc. They come a close second to Hache.
Ouce100: Can I get some chips with my order
Haché waiter: do you want chunky or French fries
Ouce100: I’ll have one of each (I have to add here that I was ordering these for three people and not just for myself)
Haché waiter: so you’ll have a Russian then?
Queue confused expressions amongst the diners
Ouce100: What do you mean we’ll have a Russian?
Haché waiter: You said you’ll have oneovich
Ok. So it was a head in hands moment and technically speaking, someone with a name like onovich is more likely to come from (the former) Yugoslavia than from Russia, but I am a bit of a sucka for service with a bit of banter….even if it is in the form of a rubbish joke. For me, this episode sums up my experience of Hache. It is pretty laid back, unassuming, unpretentious etc. The burgers too are ok. I mean, they’re not world beaters but they’re decent. It’s in a sort of simply decorated restaurant. Seating is slouchworthy (this is a word that should exist). Music was good but pretty low so every now and then I caught the sound of some cool track that I hadn’t heard in a while and then drift off back to my conversation. I was able to have a nice burger, in a pleasant enough atmosphere whilst have a good conversation with a few mates. For me, it is a pretty good option when there is a few of you and you just want to have a chat and some decent food in a relaxed place.
