Outstanding
This bar is the best thing that's ever happened to Wandsworth Common. The staff are incredibly friendly and always up for a chat. And unlike other places that change barworkers constantly, Bruce and Steve (the owners) are always there so you are welcomed back to a bar each time where everyone knows your name!
The food is fantastic and incredible value, as are the vast array of spirits. They include the delicious Budvar on tap amongst other beers, and stock an impressive selection of wines. They also sell the new fair trade Cola.
The atmosphere is always cheery and I meet a new person each time I go, as people at the bar feel welcome and comfortable enough to spark a conversation. But there are plenty of tables and a sofa if that's not your cup of tea. Upon arrival, Bruce races to your table with free peanuts, and there are also olives if you aks for them.
Live artists often play, and they have hosted local community events with youth steel bands and face painting for the kids! They also do private functions and show sports matches on their wide screen. Dogs are welcome at any time.
It is always clean and the toilets are always spotless. It is wonderful to have a tasteful and sophistacted bar, which has the warm and cosy feeling of a local pub. Once you go to the Gateway, I guarentee it will become your local! You'll just have to keep going back.
