Reviews for Patara Fine Thai Cuisine
London has, in my opinion, yet to really host a world-class Thai restaurant. The nearest we have is Patara, by all accounts the Soho branch being better than the others in the mini-chain, and even here my experiences have been inconsistent. It's a lovely room, and the service is generally excellent, but there's something about the food that fails to deliver - perhaps it's toned down for timid British palettes or it's too difficult to get the required ingredients over here. Either way, it seems we may have to wait a little longer for a Thai restaurant to be proud of.
Patara is a bit different from other Thai restaurants. Dishes like wild boar curry are offered, so it's a bit of a fusion going on.
We decided upon a starter each, and then picked a main each to share between us. My Thai beef salad was pretty fiery, not for the faint-hearted at all. To share, we got the calf cheek curry which was delicious; unctuous, melt-in-the-mouth meat. The highlight of the meal was the black cod. I drool thinking about it now. Vegetable sides are also worth getting.
We went during lunchtime and it was quite busy, but not overly so. The interiors are plush and elegant, the waiting staff extremely friendly and charming. Definitely recommended.
One of my favourites Thai in London. It is expensive but you get what you pay with food that is always cooked perfectly. The Lamb Shank with Panang Sauce was first class. Great food and service and miles above the tackiness and lazy food of the Blue elephant and others. Highly recommended
A favourite. Chic, sensitively styled throughout from the entrance right down to the boys and girls rooms. Its interior finished in dark wood with tasteful ornaments lit by the ambient lighting. The staff are helpful if needed when discussing the menu, which is always good for those of you who may not know the menu. The plate arrives looking a picture and you're able to taste the subtle differences in the ingredients. Definately a favourite and worth recommending, a world away from the Thai Takeaway in the parade of shops down the road. Okay okay... you pay a little more than the takeaway but you also get a lot more back. So you may not go every week but you'll want to go every month. Go and enjoy, you will not be disappointed.
