Reviews for Osteria Del Portico
I never write reviews on web sites but after eating at this restaurant last night I felt that I needed to do so! From the outside this place doesn't look so great, but I'd read a few reviews and thought I'd give it a try. We were greeted by friendly staff who put us on a table for 2 by a peeling paint wall! Really poorly decorated! We ordered wine and it came promptly, with a basket of bread and a bowl of olives. I asked the waitress for her recommendation of a main meal which she choose the fillet steak in mushroom sauce priced £15.10. We also ordered a starter and a pizza.
The starter came, it was ok, nothing special but not bad, also the wine was good! Then on to the mains, the pizza came first, again, it was ok, nothing special, but better than a tesco frozen packet pizza. Then, the steak arrived!! Hmmm...it looked like a small child had slapped it on the plate, with a dollop of sauce thrown on top. Again, its taste that counts right!? Unfortunately, not in this case,it was bad...really bad!! Honestly, it was the 2nd worst steak I've ever eaten in my life, would have been better off going to the weatherspoons and ordering a rump steak there! We both tried it, and I couldn't eat it! I never normally send food back but there was no way I was paying £15 for this! The manager came over and I told him I didn't like it and what it was I didn't like about it. He was surprised and said "This is how they've been for 15 years"!! Fair enough, but maybe that is why on a Friday night its practically empty! He took it away and said he'd bring me something else, a chicken dish.
The pizza was gone, and the vegetables, oh yeah, the "soggytables" as they should be called! About 15 minutes later my chicken dish arrived, this was better than the steak, but honestly, that wouldn't be very hard! If you like rubber chicken, and tasteless sauce then this is the dish for you!!
So to sum up this restaurant after my experience...go to weatherspoons,KFC,McDonalds, classic chicken..etc
I've been here several times and always had a good evening. The food has always been good, the staff are very friendly and the prices are reasonable for London. The decor is nothing special but in the summer eating in the courtyard is quite nice and if eating inside, it's usually busy and jolly. Recommended. Incidentally, I haven't been there with children but I've seen kids there several times.
This is a rarity in the London area – a genuinely Italian, non-chain restaurant. I can almost guarantee that as soon as you walk through the door you will think you are somewhere in Italy! OK, the door doesn't look great, but peep behind it to see the pretty courtyard and the restaurant beyond, and I gurantee you'll be chramed.
The décor is rustic Italian, with solid wooden tables and homely touches. You’re likely to be welcomed by an Italian waiter or waitress, and as soon as you sit down a bowl of tasty olives will materialise, setting the tone for a down-to-earth but delicious meal.
I’ve never had a bad meal here, but some particular stand-outs that come to mind are the beef carpaccio starter, and several good fish dishes that I’ve had for mains. Chris is a pizza addict and always enjoys them here.
In good weather there are also some table set outside in the courtyard – the surroundings are nothing special but rhe owners have done their best to create a Mediterranean atmosphere, and it’s pleasant to be able to eat outside without having traffic passing too close (another rarity in London!)
Osteria del Portico is a small Italian restaurant in Ealing. It is located back off the street, through an unappealing courtyard, that put me off going there for a while, but I'm glad I eventually did.
The restaurant had a real Italian feel - just like being back in Roma. Service was efficient and friendly.
We had a delicious warm goats cheese starter, and best cut of lamb for mains, which was served with a good portion of veggies. Wine list was all Italian, and reasonably priced.
