Sloppy, tasteless pizzas, mass produced pasta and slap dash service. The focus here is on cheap and you most certainly get what you pay for.

Not so keen on this place. It was very noisey and the service was atrocious. I did see Tucker from Grange Hill there though so it can't be all bad!

When I lived in Muswell Hill, I would go to La Porchetta regularly. There are several pizza places in the area, but this one beats the rest hands down. It is one of those restaurants that is well worth travelling to, even if you don't live in the area.

Pizzas are huge and delicious. I would recommend the pizza pasquale, with aubergines, sun-dried tomatoes, and mozzarella, and covered with rocket once it comes out of the oven ... delicious.

As a previous reviewer has mentioned, if you or someone in your group is celebrating a birthday, the staff will bring out a treat as a surprise. But be warned, this is not for the shy: they play a very loud 'happy birthday' recording and come out of the kitchen bangin pots and pans, so the whole restaurant will be watching you!

Although I'm a fan of Prochetta, I would actually say that Mauro's in Hornsey is better for Pizza's. Much less noisy, not as posh an interior (or exterior for that matter), but if you want pure quality pizza, and decent secondi you are better placed in Mauro's.

I'm getting hungry just thinking about it already! Absoloutely brilliant restaurant. Pizzas are massive, you see them made freshly right in front of you. Both times I've been they've been too big to finish but they've put it in a takeaway box for me to take home so I was even happier! The best thing is the food is pretty affordable for an Italian restaurant these days. They do all sorts, meats, pizza, pasta etc. Staff are really friendly, and they’ll even sing happy birthday and bring something out if you alert them that it’s a group partys birthday! Italian at it’s best!

I visited La Porchetta on about 5 friend's recommendations and was not disappointed! Me and my partner ordered pizzas and were both delighted! The food was with us within 5 minutes, despite a busy weekend lunch-time crowd and was one of the nicest I've had for ages!

The place is family run and they also do a take away service. I will be heading back there soon with a larger group!

Oh, and just to mention the prices - the majority were all between £5-6 which is fantastic!

I came here on a friend's recommendation.
This is a large Italian restaurant, primarily serving pizza and pasta at very cheap prices. I ordered an avocado vinaigrette as a starter, which really did not make a good first impression for me. It was simply an avocado cut in half, with what tasted like value salad dressing poured in the middle. I would give that zero marks for presentation and zero marks for taste.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza. I ordered a vegetarian pizza while my partner ordered a ham and mushroom pizza. He found his a little bland I believe, but how can ham and mushroom pizza not be bland, I ask you?!! My pizza was very nice, with olives, peppers, mushrooms, onion, artichoke and spinach. There was an excellent balance of cheese, tomato and toppings, and the base was cooked to perfection. All in all, a perfect italian pizza for half the price of other italian restaurants.
The house wine was also very reasonably priced, and although the white left a bit to be desired, the red was surprisingly full bodied and flavoursome.
I would recommend La Porchetta very highly, but in future, I will only order the pizza, and skip the starters!

Thank you for that good, detailed analysis. I'd be interested in knowing how you have seen half an avocado better presented?
