In the Chinese Hokkien dialect, the word Kiasu means, 'afraid to lose’ i.e. ‘afraid to be second best’, this fear is eleviated by the spectacular food you’ll find at Kiasu.

Reviews for Kiasu Restaurant

Kiasu was one of my favourites, but last night I discovered that just like the late Chinese Experience on Shaftesbury Avenue it has ceased to exist.

I cannot believe that even a Time Out Cheap Eats 2007 winner has been shuttered! A real real shame. Times are bad indeed :(

The great thing about this place is that you’ll probably want to eat everything that’s on the menu. So no surprises with repeat visits.

The cooking and flavourings of the dishes are pretty much spot on and authentic. Service can be hectic when it gets busy; in fact come to think of it I don’t think this place is ever quiet.

Great value palatable tuck and a great refreshing alternative to the usual chicken chow mein or chicken tikka masala.

Some dishes here are as close to authentic as you can get over here, specifically the Penang fried kway teow, nonya curry chicken, roti prata, satay and hainan chicken rice (ask for the leg portion). I didn't find some dishes anything to rave about, in particular the wa tan hor fun and nasi lemak. Then there are other dishes that sit somewhere in the middle, such as the wanton noodles (the noodles and a side of soup were spot on, but the 3 wantons floating in the soup tasted like the frozen variety). The restaurant is clean and unpretentious. The wait-staff are friendly. They do takeaway. Probably need to make a booking on weekends especially for dinner to avoid disappointment.
