Located in the newly popular Marylebone Area, Caldesi serves Italian dishes in a good atmosphere. They also have a private dining room (which can cater for private paties of up to 24 guests), the Renaissance Room, where Tuscan dishes are served in glorious surroundings. The room took two months to hand paint by a team of artists who used original Casein paint used by Renaissance artists and researched into the frescoes of the time.

Work colleagues at Magellan Labs like this place so I decided to try it out. I was shown to a nice quiet corner table at the back which was a good start. My guest, a sophisticated
gourmet with appreciation for the finer things in life, had some fish dishes (the Professor is allergic to fish alas)
which she enjoyed whilst I began with the Insalata Caldesi and followed with the Picci (pronounced "Peaky") al Ragu di Agnello. Both were good. Service was friendly although occasionally a bit chaotic. Very Italian really. Some gripes: the pricing of the starters was outrageous - £10 - £12 for simple dishes (like my salad) makes no sense, especially when the mains are around £15. And the cappuccino was lukewarm (why can't London restaurants realize that cappuccino should always be piping hot?)
The ambience was relaxed and comfortable without being grand. And good acoustics. No horrid piped music. I'll be back.
