Reviews for My Old Dutch
A really cool place been a few times and even though i live about hour away it's well worth the trip.
chilli on a pancake! hell yeah!
I went to this branch today after reading the reviews below – they really are as big as your face! But I found them surprisingly okay to get through considering the portions. I ordered the pear and cinnamon with ice cream and had a delicious tropical smoothie (which tasted a lot like “innocent strawberry and banana” but I saw her blending it so it was tropical even if it didn’t taste it!) My boyfriend had a savoury pancake called seafood which he completely devoured.
The service was a little passive considering it was very empty but I guess it was nice to be left alone. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will be visiting again in the future to try out the savoury pancakes.
Unusual and fun... large pancakes bigger than your face! Friendly staff and great atmosphere!
I'm glad I've found a place where they do pancakes like the ones I had in Amsterdam. They're quite big (perfect!) and the menu covers most things that people would want on their pancake. I've only had savoury ones so far. Some are better than others but this place is generally good. Wholesome pancakes are perfect for satisfying a hungry belly.
I thought my Old Dutch in Holborn was the only one but I've seen a few popping up around town. It's a nice, relaxed place, attracting a cool young(ish) crowd.
Pancakes are mighty! And very very big! They are thin, good soft texture, light and fluffy. The first time I went there I had a vegetarian, savoury one which looked a little bit like a pizza. It was very filling, Although I did find it a little greasy (probably cos I chose the one with the most cheese!)
Another couple of times I went there for a hot chocolate and dessert and liked the food and service. It's not somewhere I would go very often simply because I found the portions quite big and the food rich but it's definately a place I would go again. Like the previous review mentioned its a good place for a big group, food is served quickly because of the relatively simple recipes, it's fun, it's casual, def a place to try with friends. Something different to eat every now and again.
One evening I dined at My Old Dutch Pancake House in Holborn with a group of 22 friends. This Holborn restaurant is part of a small chain of Pancake House's which serve up freshly cooked Pannekoek, an authentic Dutch pancake. These are the biggest savoury pancakes I have ever seen.
My Old Dutch is a cheerful looking place, with friendly, though not necessarily efficient service. I had a few issues with trying to order a drink (had to ask 4 times) and then they gave my meal to someone else. We sat downstairs, and were the only table down there….but with such a big group we created our own atmosphere.
I ended up having a pancake with artichoke, sun-dried tomato, olives and cheese. It was much better than I was expecting. Others had the Chicken Curry, Chilli Con Carne, Smoked Salmon, and the Amsterdammer pancakes, to name a few. A few of us managed to squeeze in a dessert. I had a Waffle with ice cream and caramel sauce - quite tasty, but next time I will just stick to the pancakes.
I love the Netherlands, especially Amsterdam for its wonderful canals & crooked gabled houses, a heritage close to my homeland South Africa & not to mention home to some very special friends.
So imagine my delight to find a Dutch styled pancake house in London. Be your pancake fancy savoury or sweet this pancake house delivers. Pancakes are served on a huge plate which is a typical delft blue.
The restaurant is light & airy on the top level & can cater for noisy groups in the cellar below
They cater for vegetarian, meat & sweet lovers
My favourite dish is a chicken curry pancake, whilst my friend Rich had My Old Amsterdammer which was bacon, apple & maple syrup. I did not get a bite of his as it was gone in no time
I have not been able to order a sweet pancake as my main has been filling enough but they look yummy. I have had a milkshake here which are very good & not sickly sweet. The cost is average for London perhaps a bit more expensive then one would expect but for something so different it is well worth it.
