Had a fab romantic evening with this little Bistro in Redchurch St. The dining room is lovely, the atmosphere is warm and despite some bench like wooden seating and the occasional iron backed chair all is soft glows amid wooden tables and candles. My companion and I both had the Beef Bourguignon which tasted wonderful. The menu is mercifully brief and split evenly with offerings from Italy and France although Raclette and Fondue were always Swiss affairs in my head on this menu France has claimed them! I am definitely going back to gorge myself on Cheese!

The house wine was good and Prosecco by the glass made a nice aperitif. We ate with the aforementioned tipple and a couple of glasses of wine for £25 per head. Our starters were a duck salad and the Bruschetta where the Bruschetta was tip top the salad could've done with a lot more care and was perhaps the one weak link in an otherwise splendid evening.

Service came with a smile however it was amusing to watch our hostess muddle the room and turn covers away from tables reserved that she alone knew about! A simple card on tables taken would have avoided much confusion. One young man came in and asked for dinner, a word it would seem our french hostess had never heard of. He didn't stay long enough to fill a seat.

We however loved up and filled up left with a spring in our step promising ourselves a return. Jx

What can go wrong with vats of hot cheese? 11th March 2009

So we came here, intent on eating hot vats of cheese and using pointy sticks to stab protein and carb sources and dip them into said fats. So I guess it was exactly what we wanted. And the cheese, stick and protein thing was damn tasty. However...

I don't normally expect a toilet to rock when I sit on it. Sure this was post-cheese and I was a little heavier, but the bathroom was falling apart. And the stairs for that matter.

Normally I'll forgive a man bearing cheese and wine anything, but the service was also a bit surly.

So I guess it's worth going it you like cheese and live in the area. That way you can go home to pee.

One of my favourite places in the area, this small alpine bar/restaurant is tucked away from the hustle of brick lane - on my first visit, I found the owners hunched over a game of subbuteo in the middle of the bar's single room. Hearty mountain fare including raclette, fondue and cassoulet are served alongside continental beers and cheap wine, while the alpine/continental folk music played adds to a beautifully charismatic atmosphere

This small romantic bistro was the perfect place for my catch up with old friends. Serving fondue, raclette, pastas and French cuisine we spent more than a couple of hours enjoying this experience and not much on the pocket.
The atmosphere is beautifully intimate and the staff were very warm and relaxed.
Walluc Bistrot is BYOW (and don’t forget as there is/was no wine sold there!)
They also sold traditional Italian cooking goodies like porcini pastes, pastas and truffle oils etc
They also have a lunch special I would love to try if I am in the area......from 11 - 2pm any pasta and drink for £5.80 now that’s a steal!
