Reviews for Scarlet Dot

The place obviously wants to be trendy funky and expensive, but we arrived for an early Saturday evening meal with kids in tow. The outdoor eating under quite high Spitalfields roof was nice, and the grub matched the decor. We were still in time for the 2-4-1 drink special as well.

The service was decent enough, but quite slow at times and they kept tripping over our high chair until they eventually knocked a glass over and broke it.

Would I recommend? Yeah. Would I go back? Probably, just not right away. I've had nicer and cheaper Indian meals.

One word, “magnificent!” loved the food, Loved the place. Loved the atmosphere.
Will definitely be going back to Scarlet Dot.
The food was superb, very tasty. Very authentic. The cocktails were amazing. The bar man was remarkable. Staff were very friendly. Scarlet Dot is positively value for money.

When I was told by a friend that he had booked an Indian restaurant in Spitalfields I was not overjoyed by the idea. A combination of being in East London (!) and serving Indian food did not sound good to me - but I am a West London girl and the last time I went to India I was pretty sick! However, I was pleasantly by Scarlet.

It is one of the "new" restaurants in/near Spitalfields market. All of these restaurants are large, spacious, furnished with modern designs and pretty good. Scarlet is exactly that - red. With a bit of black thrown in for food measure. The cocktail list is good, even if the cocktails are a bit on the sweet side for my taste.

The food is Indian and quite spicy. It is also plentiful so go easy on the side dishes! The prawn dishes are excellent - very tasty indeed and the lentil dahl and aloo sag are also very good.

Service was a bit hit and miss. It is difficult to establish who is looking after you and even if you do manage this, we found that it was hard to catch our waiter's eye. It was one of those occasions where you feel that they are doing you a favour by letting you order something! Anyway, this could not detract from what was a pretty good meal and a huge step up from some of the more established Indian places in the region.
